Cannot load windows

Have a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP bios rev 1, , 2.4 pentium processor with HT. 2-512 pc400 ram chips. HD is 120 gig sata no raid. I recently had to reformat because of spyware my son picked up. Computer was working well up till then. windows xp will not load. Keep getting error messages, different each time. Tried a different HD and a different windows disc. Used each of the 2 cd roms in the computer. Still get error messages at different stages of intalation. Cannot find an error in the bios. All hardware is detected and seems to be working.

Tx for the replies. I did restore the bios defaults and then try again after disableing the raid. the ram registers in bios as 1gig running at dual channel with 400mhz frequency on the auto setting. Errror messages are usually that windows cannnot copy a file (different each time) even if i navigate to the file on the disc in the drive it does not copy. Then will get a blue screen that says setup needs to shut down in order to avoid damage to computer.

First of all remove the BIOS battery and re-set COMS setup. use default option for BIOS setting. And also try to install Windows with one RAM module installed... Your RAM might be faulty..

Where is the Driver for a SataI HardDisk when installing Windows 7, which is attached to a Gigabyte 8KNXP Motherboard? The Gigabyte 8KNXP Driver Download site has a Driver but it's for Windows XP.

According to Gigabyte, you have a Silicon Image 3112/3152 SATA chip on that motherboard. Below is a link to the Silicon Image support page. Here, under the Product support pulldown you will choose either of the two numbers (3112/3152) and scroll down the list and you will find a driver for Windows 7 for 32 and 64 bit 3x12 chips (where the x is any number). They also say to use the newest BASE BIOS and there are tips to update the chip's BIOS. I've never tried this before, but hope you have good luck!

GA-8KNXP 4 X 1 GB Ram Bios shows 3.500 GB

Hi,
This is because you are running 32 bit system. 32 bit system can only use up to 4GB RAM theoritically but some only 3.5 GB RAM.
Only 64 bit systems can use 4GB RAM and more.

Gigabyte Ga-K8N Pro Windows XP Installation

Download "MEMTEST86+" from the Internet.
One version boots from a diskette;
another version boots from a CD-R (that you have created).

Either way, make MEMTEST do a "full" test of the RAM in your computer -- bad RAM can cause "unpredictable" crashes.

My motherboard can;t detect my harddisk.....

Hi modjoguy, the bios must see your SATA hard disk before windows can see your SATA hard disk drive. To check this please press the delete key every two seconds as soon as you power on the system. (Note 1: Some motherboards that do not show the SATA II drive while in the bios may need its jumper set to SATA I in order for the bios to see the SATA drive). (See the drives large white sticker on the hard disk drive for SATA I location of jumper).
(Note 2: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 2.x & Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M-RH motherboards use the same manual). The Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 1.x manual is slightly different, thus page numbers differ from the other two above.
Here is the link for all three: http://www.giga-byte.com/Search/Search_List.aspx?Keyword=K8VM800M&SearchType=Spec
The bios main menu will open. Open your manual (rev2.0 & RH) to page 38 & read under the listing, "IDE Channel 2/3 Master". The idea is your SATA drives should be listed at 2/3.
Once they are seen you need to open Advanced BIOS Features page 40. You can load the advanced bios features by pressing "Ctrl+F1" keys. You must list the SATA drive you want as the primary hard disk drive (Usually its the model number of the drive), that will have windows installed on it.

Good luck modjoguy!
Run into a snag just post it here.
