1. Try reinstalling the driver after uninstalling the present driver.
2. On the installed printer driver, right click and check whether the printer is on line or off line, Make sure that it displays "Use Printer Offline" that means that the printer is already online.
3. Now give a print and check.
4. try reconnecting usb cable or replacing.

My HPDeskjet says alignment failed. Cartridges are set to default quality. I just replaced the ink cartridge.

Are they refills? HP will not accept refills at all . I know from experience.
If they are HP cartridges then the print head is probably clogged. ( the big square tray that the cartridges fit into)
You'll have to remove it (just a latch or clip. Look in manual) and replace it. They can't be cleaned. I've tried on several different models.

Step one: Complete the alignment process If you have already installed new print cartridges, follow these steps to complete the alignment process.
  1. After installing a new print cartridge, wait at least 20 seconds for the print cartridge alignment process to start.
  2. Wait for the print cartridge alignment process to fully complete.
  3. Make sure that the alignment page has printed on plain, white paper that has no other printing on it. If you need to create a new alignment page, load the tray with letter or A4 unused plain white paper and turn the product off and on again to create the page.
If an alignment page does not print when the product is turned on or off, the issue is resolved. If an alignment page continues to print when the product is turned on or off, you should replace the cartridges with new HP cartridges. Continue to Step two: Remove the print cartridges. Step two: Remove the print cartridges Follow the steps below to remove the cartridges. I have put a new black cartridge in printer but nothing is printing out- when I run a test the color cartirdge are working but not black

Hmmm, make sure it is properly fitting in there.... Take it out and put it back in.... Usually the printer performs some kind of "preparing the ink" operation... SO allow it to does this...... Make sure you are using genuine ink, sometimes printers won't accept non-genuine inks.... Hope this helps :)

I have a C4240 All-In-One HP printer. I just put in a new black cartridge. The alignment page prints, however, when I scan it according to the direction, it fails. This has not happened before. I would...

This may be a long shot, however, have you tried to replace the old cartridge and see what happens?

Given that one may be out of ink, the printer may not accept "a call to print" as my hp printer, but I am thinking that either you may have a defective cartridge or otherwise somehow did not install the cartridge through the correct install method - meaning that if you manually slid the cartridge holder over to insert the new one, it may need to me manually moved back (typically hp has a button to depress to "call" the cartridge holder over towards the center to insert a new one...)

FINALLY -- if it is color - check the ink levels to be sure they have ink - my HP gets real finicky when the color cartridges are nearing empty...

Best Regards
Ck

Thanks in advance. Canon i860 has not been used for three years, with ink cartridges in place, only prints blue text, whats your recommendation?

A cartridge can have a life for 6 months to the maximum after which the ink either dries up or evaporates.
Thes best think for you do is to clean up the printer and replace the cartridges.

Then the printer would work as good as new. I would also recommend you to install the drivers for the printer by downloading the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Align the cartridges using the software and print a test page. Clean the cartridge heads and then the printer is all set to go !

Tops and bottoms of letters are cut off. I have changed the ink cartridge

Replace the old ink cartridge.
Verify that the unit is on. The On button is lit when the unit is on. If the device is not on, press the button to turn on the unit. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the unit. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. When replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. When replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. Pull the print cartridge toward you and out of its slot. If the print cartridge is being removed because it is low or out of ink, recycle the print cartridge. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging. Remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. Removing the Tape from the catridge.
  1. Will have Copper-colored contacts.
  2. Plastic tape with pink pull tab ( must be removed before installing ).
  3. Ink nozzles under tape
  4. The HP All-in-One prompts for an alignment of the cartridges every time a print cartridge is installed or replaced. Follow these steps to align the print cartridges from the control panel.
  5. Top & Bottom not printing properly.
  6. Load unused, plain, white letter, A4, or legal paper into the input tray
  7. If coloured paper is loaded in the Input tray when the print catridges are aligned, the alignment will fail. Load unused, plain white paper into the input tray when the Printer catridges are aligned, the alignment will fail. Load and unused plain white paper into the Input Tray and then try the alignment again.
    1. Press 6 to select Tools .
    2. Press 2 to select Align Print Cartridge The unit prints a print cartridge alignment sheet.
    3. Load the alignment sheet print-side down and top first in the center of the document feeder tray, and then press OK. Now the printer will print properly.

4315 Hp Printer will not align.

restart your printer like this: go to control panel>
performance and maintenance>administrative tools> services> scroll down until you come to print spooler, click on this then on the upper side of your screen you will see restart, click on it.
This should get you up and running. Shame on your repair man for not showing you how to fix the problem.
You could even try not aligning the cartridges, this will just cause your printer to spit out an alignment page each time you turn it on but still should go ahead and print for you.
let me know how if this helps.
