Question about Denon DRA-565RD

1 Answer

DRA-565RD: The receiver plays (CD or tape) for a few seconds and then just "shorts out" - stop playing. Checked speaker wires - they aren't crossed (touching each other).

In that case the problem is inside it: when the unit works it heats up and a piece dilates, touching the ground and shorting everything. Or the part dilates and loses contact causing a loss of power.
Open the unit and look very carefully for uninsulated parts, exposed or weakened solderings and damaged wires.

When on FM tuner, stereo stops playing after a few minutes

Right then sounds like the connection from the aerial lead into the receiver - check out the socket where the aerial plugs into!

Is it loose at all or could there be a bad connection inside the unit.
Get the cover OFF and investigate yourself before you rush down to that very friendly repair man along the street.

Blows fuse

It is most likely the audio output semiconductors have shored, check all speaker wires for shorts, if okay! I suggest a professional to assess the situation.

Recently purchased yamaha rx-v665 av receiver, was working fine, but for last 15 days while playing either movies on DVD or any audio, the AUDIO shuts off and the speaker display on the receivers front...

Check to make sure your wires aren't crossing on your speakers or if any of them are loose. Could easily be the cause for knocking out your speakers. That's the easy fix. Other than that it sounds like a computer issue. I'd take it back to where I got it from if it was me and it had only been two weeks.
I am kind of curious, though. Why aren't you using all seven channels? You really shouldn't leave channels open like that.

Try unplugging everything, including your speaker wires. It's possible that you have a damaged or crossed cable or wire causing a short that activated the receiver's internal circuit. It might have also reheated.

Let the unit sit for an hour. Plug it in (just the power), set the volume to minimum, and turn it on. If it stays on, the issue MIGHT be with a wire or connection, so you should examine all of the tires for damage or crossed connections.

Turn the receiver off, unplug it, reconnect the wires and cables. Plug it back in, make sure the volume is set to the minimum level and turn the receiver on.

There should be a fuse between the switch and the primary. Have you verified that there is voltage on the primary or checked the continuity of the mains fuse?

you could have faulty wiring that shorts out if it touches something or, if it gets too hot it will short out too. wires that are crossed can short out the speakers as well even if there is no bare metal showing. just the sheer pressure can cause it to short out.

Stops working after a few mins with cd player playing

One of three things: speaker wire short, shorted/or blown speaker, or a bad output chip. First and easiest way to check is to disconnect all speakers, turn it on, turn it up, and wait. If that's ok, begin connecting one speaker at a time with the unit off, then turn on and play. When you get to the speaker or wire with the problem, it will short and go into protection. Disconnect all speaker wires again and only hook up the speaker that shorted the receiver and test. If it shorts, swap speakers with the same wire and test again. If a different speaker on the same wire causes the unit to short, replace the wire. if it doesn't, you need to test the speaker with a multimeter or disassemble if possible, check the wiring internally on the speaker. Check the impedance, should be 8ohms or 6ohms depending on the drivers. then check for resistance. If your meter says 1... it's shorted and needs to be replaced. Hope this helps
