Question about Acer Aspire 5535-5050 Notebook

1 Answer

Please can someone help me, I have an acer, model aspire 5535 laptop, Vista home basic OS installed, with a serious fault of not booting up. The night before it went dead it was working fine all evening with no indication of any type of fault ocuring, the last thing I did on it before shutting down is to install vista updates, shut system down then in the morning tried to reboot nothing happened all i get is powerlight on, fan works, can hear hdd, the dvd drive initiates but nothing else works no hdd light, blank screen and just sits like that, plugged into external monitor and nothing, completely striped it down can't find anything gone or burnt. My theory is one of many, bios corrupted, cpu or gpu gone or the main board has just gave up. Is there anybody else had the same syptoms as what I have described above? if so what did you find out and did you solve the problem? any help on this matter would be most greatful please note that I have done repaired and built alot of pc's in the past and have a vast knowledge of electronics, help me someone, I'm pulling my hair out on this one thank you.

Have you tried a different HD. If the vista download was the last thing you did, i would have thought that was your problem.
BUT i cant see that this would stop it from detecting the hard drive.
I had a similar problem on a desktop with a vista update, it had turned off my main hard drive as a bootable device in the bios, I dont know if you can get into the bios, but it may be worth taking a look

Need Vista Home Basic

Usually the operating system is on a separate partition especially for reinstallation when things go pearshape.

Some models used the SHIFT 0 when booting up to get to the windows installation. If you have deleted ALL partitions and reformatted then you have a real problem. Call DELL if you have not deleted partitions and find the specific s]sequence of accessing the partition for your model.

I need to reinstall windows vista after a serious virus infection and can't find correct ''f'' key to boot from cd

Ensure the CD drive is set as the 1st boot device in the BIOS. Try F2 or Delete key immedietely on startup a few times until it enters the BIOS. Chnge the order there to CD first. Save and exit. Boot with CD, no F* key required.

How do you remove Windows Vista from acer 5535. i want to play my games but i got a feeling they wont run since vista is a memory hog. and since its got 3 gig im afraid it will lag alot. games needed to...

If you want to install another operating system on the laptop all you have to do is boot your laptop from your installation disc. You can then format your hard drive, and do your install. Here is the catch; you have to make sure you have all of the drivers for your laptop for that version of Windows. I've been able to play a lot of games in Vista with the Comparability mode turned on. Before you get rid of Vista it might be worth trying that out.

Hello I have an acer aspire 5535 and it keeps

The complete solution to this fault (Acer 5535 keeps crashing under vista) is to use Windows XP instead of Vista. Set up a Dual Boot so you can CHOOSE to load XP or Vista each time you turn on the laptop. I've put XP on my 5535 and it's SO much faster and seems perfectly stable now - no crashing at all.

A full video showing how to do this is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdfU9TXIAd4

Once you've done this you won't have any problems with the laptop anymore.
This is a perfect solution to the crashing problem!

You can probably alter the recovery option from within the bios - certain changes within the bios can harm your software installation use caution. Enter bios on boot with f2 key.
