Have you tried a different HD. If the vista download was the last thing you did, i would have thought that was your problem.
BUT i cant see that this would stop it from detecting the hard drive.
I had a similar problem on a desktop with a vista update, it had turned off my main hard drive as a bootable device in the bios, I dont know if you can get into the bios, but it may be worth taking a look

Thank you rcw1962 for the reply and the suggestions, yeah I have tried a different hdd but the main problem I have is it is completely dead can't even access the bios as nothing comes on atalI no indication of screen lighting up, thought of that, and tried a bootable vista disc that doesn't work either ,any more help or advice that I can try? or is it for the scrap bin?
