Emptied toner waste and now I'm supposed to do an Sp 83 or Sm 83 to clear the counter?
My Ricoh FT 3713. Put in new toner. Still can't get toner light to go off. So I check the toner waste container. It's full! Toner light still won't go off. I've since emptied, and according to the container, I'm supposed to clear a counter by Sp or sm83. What's this and how do I go about clearing it? I'm very new at this, so try to very specific. Thank You very much.

Check the waste bottle to see if there is a chip mounted on it somewhere. If not see if there is an optical sensor or clear window. If there is a chip it will need to be replaced or a new unit used. If there is a window or optical sensor you should be able to remove it, clean it out, and replace it. These are often the last part to fill with toner and create a light path block.
not a solution - but a problem... i emptied the toner waste bottle in my MPW2400 and a new error message appears...says there is no toner and it keeps dumping toner from the new cartridge until it is coming out of every orifice of the machine. What is that about?
This is for a W2400/3600 which should I assume is the same spec for other Ricoh wide format machines. When you are facing the printer from the front, it's on the right side panel. The waste toner bottle should be about 28" from the ground. Remove all right side panels. There is a sensor (held by phillips screw) that you will need to temporarily remove and reinstall back on to the waste toner bottle once it's emptied. Replace all right side panels. You are good to go. No need to call service tech to waste time. Should be a 30 minute change.
You didn't include the model number, but it sounds like a ricoh FT3213 or 3713. If your not a tech, and it sounds like your not, then you'll need to call one. The waste toner is located in the cleaning section, and it needs to be emptied, and then reset in service mode with "SP83" which will mean nothing to you.
Drill a 3/4" hole in lower left side of waste toner bottle. Waste toner is very fine and will get all over the place – you also may want a breathing mask. Take outside and dump waste in large ziplock bag and dispose properly. Put a large piece of shipping tape and cover hole. Put back into ricoh c410. This wi;; save you about $50 and less plastic in our landfills. SG
The Counter for the Waste Toner has to be reset. You go into service mode by selecting Additional Function, then depress the 2 & 8 at the same time then the Additional function key once again. You should see a screen that says copier, feeder, etc. Touch " Copier " and then you should see a new menu across the top of the screen. Far right is " Counter ". Select it and then go to " MISC ", you should see Web, Waste toner, etc. Select Waste toner and select the " C ( clear ) " key and the counter should reset to all zero's.. Select the reset key a couple of times to get out of service mode. You may want to see what's all in service mode to get an idea of what's there. When replaceing time change items most likely there will be a counter to reset in the same way. Good Luck.
