Hi,

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems, to activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/or device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times.

If there is no sequence of blinks or no LED's blinking,
it is highly suggestive of ' faulty power supply unit '.If you have experience in repairing TV, could read schematics, know how to use multimeter and soldering iron and keep all precautions, i would be more than happy to provide you few pointers to repair this. This is almost certain to be a hardware failure.

Let me know,so that we could Proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO
D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB. 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2
    2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24
AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT
WOULD BE SUSPECT. OR your TV has "COOLANT" (ethylene glycol) on
the circuit boards. This fluid comes from the CRT's (picture tube) this
fluid is used to keep the CRT's cool, such the name. This fluid from the
CRT's leak when TV is on for long periods of time, the chamber expands
    and the seals leak.

    One can remove
this fluid by using "acetone" & small brush. The fluid is hard to
see, use bright light, they spots can be smaller then a DIME. Also, the
fluid can corrode the parts and traces on the boards. To protect the TV
in future place heavy plastic or thick cardboard over affective area,
make sure TV has proper air flow around TV.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for your response!!

For this, you could have a look at the service manual :-

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/6677240/Mitsub...

You could only view the manual. You need to have acrobat reader to view the file.

It would have all the details.

Note - These sets are quite dangerous to work on. Make sure that you are aware of all the possible risks involved and take every possible precaution.

Let me know,so that we could
    Proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

What should I do in order to get the sound to turn back on my Vizio VX20L TV?

Have you tried the user manual? There may be a setting in the menu indicating whether to use internal speakers or some other device run through say, a cable or HDMI output, or turn off sound for those using a cable input to the TV from say, a cable box, but the sound goes to a separate sound system.
Also check that there is sound coming INTO the unit from your cable box if you have one and use RCA cables. If using HDMI input, there may be a menu item as well, to control whether to use input or not, as some people will have the cable box send the sound to a sound system instead of the TV.

Tv turns on and back off

Most of these sets have a self check----if Green power light comes on for a few seconds and goes off on the front of the set press and hold both the menu and input (source) buttons at same time for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Power light will blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and repeat it for a total of 5 times.

Let me know if you get a error code and what it is.

Unplugging power from the set clears the error code so if that has been done you will have to try to turn set on, let it fail and then do the self check again.

GET DIAGNOSTIC CODES

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu" buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

Let me know what error you find and I will tell you what it means.

Tv randomly shuts off

next time it shuts down and power light goes out--do the self check.

On front of set press and hold BOTH MENU AND INPUT BUTTONS FOR AT LEAST FIVE SECONDS AND RELEASE BOTH BUTTONS.

Power light (if an error is detected) will blink a two digit code.

Most common is 2 blinks, pause and 2 blinks---set if there is a error code will repeat it at least 5 times.

If you detect a error code, let me know and I will tell you what it means.

1 Answer

Tv turns itself off

do the self test the set has.

when green light (power) comes on and then goes off, press and hold BOTH the Menu and Input buttons for at least 5 seconds and release both buttons on the front of the set.

The power light will display a error code: for example 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks (this is the most common one) and it will repeat the code about 5 times.

To get it to repeat it you have to unplug set, plug it back in and turn it one and when it fails repeat the check.

Let me know what error code you find and I will tell you what may be wrong. I hope it is 2,2 as it is the least difficult to resolve.

Tv will not turn on. I hear it click and the light goes on for about 3 seconds then shuts off. I've tried this about 20 times

Please listen and try this:

When the power light comes on and goes off, on the front of the set press BOTH the Menu and Input (Device) buttons at the SAME time and HOLD them both for at least five seconds and then release both.

The power light will blink a two digit error code and will repeat it about 5 times. To get it to repeat you would have to unplug the set and turn it one again etc.

The most common error is 2 blinks, pause, 2 blinks.

Let me know what error code you find and I will direct you as to what it means and what may have to be done.
