It's not a matter of settings, if you use the defaults it will be ok. Just take care not to bench any pin at the 15 pin VGA connector from the power to the monitor. Take the connector out to check that everything is ok. Reconect it back and tight both screws for not to be moved. As you describe your case I assume that the pin for the green color in not in clear contact, so all the colors that comes from green are misquted.
