Question about Frigidaire GLTF2940ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a GLTR1760ASO about 5 years old. I just replaced door lock but now won't spin. It appears that the main bearing is broken. It would not spin but motor ran fine when I took off belt. Also does not turn evenly and basket not held securely --loose. I see that replacing bearing requires replaceing whole rear half of tub. About $200. (It seems that design placing full load one bearing with no support for front of basket is inherently problematic. Is this common to all front loading machines? If I get new machine are there some less likely to have this problem in future? Is it likely that there is also problem with the spindle which is another $250? Is replacement done by removing cabinet or by pulling tub out from rear? Wife found sale price of $450 for a Samsung WF210ANVV/XAA. I generally prefer fixing to buying new but sit doesn't seem to make sense here unless I have some assurance that with reasonable amount of effort I can first assure myself that spindle OK and then complete job and have a machine which will be expected to last.

    thanks.
That confirms my instinct. Still I also am interested in saving the stainless steel basket if replaced as I saw interesting plan for making into a hanging lamp. I would appreciate idea of how best to extract and est of amount of work.

Hi,

Before i start the conversation, i would like to inform you that there is a general thumb rule - ' If the cost of repair is more than half the price of the machine, it is better to switch to the new machine '.

The life of washing machine depends upon many factors. The main factors include the ' usage ' and ' how you maintain ' the machine. The average life of washing machine ( moderate users ) is around 7 years.

Let's suppose you spend $200 and it would be repaired, there is no guarantee that it would not cause any problem in the next couple of years. There would be certain parts that are worn out and needs replacement.

As the new machine is $450, it would also help you in long run. It's an investment of $450 for 5 - 7 years as compare to $200 for a couple of years and then you might need to buy a new one ( who knows ).So, i would agree purchasing the new one is a wise decision ( in long term ).

So, whether it's $200 or $250 - in long run, it would be a loss.

If you still, wanted to repair, revert and i could tell you few pointers how to replace these stuff and what needs to be done.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Maytag 2000 drains all water and spins but spins slow

two things, first one is could be the r-11 resister on main board burned or a tub bearing . check the main board inside touch panel. on it is a resister that tells computer door lock is or is not latched door lock light may be lit but computer indicates not and will not advance to max spin. if resister is burned and board is replaced be sure that you replace the wax motor door lock motor as well. if you don't replace locking motor you risk burning out new board again. tub bearing is easy to find out. just lift basket at top with finger and feel for vertical movement of basket alone,"slop" or "movement up/down. if so then replace the rear tub shell and spinner for basket . hope this helps.

Cannot get rid of the lock symbol and it won't start even b4 the symbol appeared?

This sounds like a faulty door lock switch or a faulty main electronic logic board. When the door lock switch is faulty or opened it pauses the main board to allow the machine to stop working without switching off completely so that you don't lose the cycle when opening the door during a wash. But there should be a button to push to release the door lock when starting up the machine.if that doesen't work then there is a breakdown of communication from the door lock switch to the main logic board and visa versa if the board is faulty. If your machine is more than five years old then those two problems are the most common in those machines. Have a technician check it out.

The machine doesn't spin properly and doesn't drain the water

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Lid Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission. Another common problem is the lid switch.

Drive Belt If the washer won't spin, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin properly.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer spin the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

Drive Block If the washer won't spin the drive block might be worn out or may have come loose. Underneath the agitator the drive block connects the inner tub (the one that spins around) to the transmission. If the drive block wears out the transmission shaft will still spin but the tub may not - or it may spin slowly. This also usually causes a lot of noise. The drive block is relatively easy to replace.

Clutch Assembly If the washer won't spin, the clutch assembly might be worn out. The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. The clutch is not repairable, if it is loud or not working properly it will need to be replaced.

Clutch Band kit If the washer won't spin, the clutch band kit might be worn out. The clutch makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. If the washer won't spin, this clutch band kit may need to be replaced.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged It will have to be replaced.

Tub Bearing If the washer won't spin the tub bearing might have seized. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

Tub Seal and Bearing Kit If the washer won't spin the tub seal and bearing might have seized. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

Bearing If the washer won't spin the bearing might have seized. This is not common. The bearing doesn't require any normal maintenance. They generally go bad when the tub seal fails and allows water to leak past into the bearing.
Basket Drive If the washer won't spin the basket drive clutch might be worn out. The basket drive sits on top of the transmission and engages with the inner tub. If the basket drive wears out the tub won't spin.

Basket Drive Hub Kit If the washer won't spin the basket drive hub might be worn out. The hub is a set of plastic gears underneath the agitator. The basket drive hub kit is easy to replace with standard hand tools.
Transmission If the washer won't spin the transmission might be worn out or defective. There are numerous more likely causes when a washer won't spin, which should be checked first.

Hi my machine is making a crunching noise what could it be?

It could be a foreign object stuck between the drums. Have a very close look around the spin bowl for signs of a bra wire or similar sticking through one of the holes in the tub. There may be a coin or something else stuck where you cant see it and it will require removal of the spin bowl ( A very big job) If the machine is older ( 6 to 10 years old) the bearings may have failed. Grab the spin bowl through the door opening and see if the drum moves up and down. If it does, its a sign that the bearings have failed and /or the main shaft has broken or worn out... Another big job. It may be cheaper to replace the machine if either of these faults have occurred.

Replaced motor,now won`t spin

Something is locked in the transmission--can you turn the inner tub manually? Also, try to turn the driven pulley (the motor and belt driven). The problem could be anything from a seized bearing to a broken gear. Don't keep trying the motor while things are locked up, you could burn it out.

Noisy spin on hotpoint aquarius WF530 6kg washing machine. Suspect bearing how do I replace them.

If you spin the drum by hand, and it is niosy and rumbling then the main drum bearings have failed.
If under 5 years old, then you should be able to get it repaired under Hotpoint 5 year guarantee, You just pay for labour and call out, cheapest option, it is not really a D.I.Y job, as it is quite involved, and entails a lot of work.
Please rate my advice.
Thanks.

Door locking & drum noisy

It sounds as though the main drum bearings are failing, if you spin the drum by hand and it feels rough or sounds niosy, then it is definately the main bearings. there should be little or no noise when you spin the drum by hand.. Re the door lock,I do not think the two problems are related, could be a faulty door lock that is taking too long to release.

If the m/c is under 5 years old, then you should be able to get it put right under Hotpoint 5 year guarantee

You pay for labour, all parts are free, and in your case the cost of parts, would in excess of £100.00
So it would be worth a phone call to Hotpoint to confirm if you are covered.
Plz rate my solution,
Thanks.

Drum won't spin

A couple of possibilities, there is something fast in the drum,or the main drum bearings have seized up.
If it is the bearings, and it is under 5 tears old, then you should be able to get it done under your 5 year parts guarantee., you just pay for labour and call out, a much sheaper solution than buying a new washer.
You really need to determine what has caused it to jam up.
Plz rate this solution.
Thanks.
