1. See whether Chipset drivers have been installed.
2. Try replacing the USB Cable.
3. Check whether this HDD is detected in another system.(If it detects and works fine then get your system checked for USB port, else you external HDD is having problem.)

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Yamaha CRW4260tx CD-RW drive Windows 8.1 driver

You're out of luck, Microsolutions went out of business long before the introduction of Windows 8.1. If this is a scsi drive, you will need the driver for the scsi card only. Once installed, the system will automatically pick up the drive during boot.

I need to change boot sequence on my ibook, I want to reload osX but my DVD player is not working, can I use a usb external drive to reload osX/

Yes, just hold the option key after powering the iBook on.
if you have an external disk with either the DMG (disc image) of OS X on have installed OS X on an external hard drive. You should be able to boot to that, and choose to either wipe your hard drive and reinstall the OS, or choose Archive and Install which won't erase anything, but can fix some issues you might be having with the OS.

Can i use an external hard drive to run an operating system (XP)

Yes. You can run an OS from an external hard drive. You have to install the OS to the External hard drive and will have to boot from the USB. I have tried that for Fedora Linux OS but not for XP. Basically all Operating systems boots up in the same manner. So definitely, its possible with windows XP also.

I think that you have to reinstall the XP os on the hard drive again.

Laptop Won't Recognize External HD

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.

Reinstalling windows xp on a new hard drive - Thinkpad t30

If you can get your hands on a Windows XP cd, it will partition and format the drive for you allowing you to install from scratch. You would then just plug in the license key from the sticker on your laptop. As far as the recovery disk on the original CD, there might be an option on bootup that would have you push an F key to access it. Or you can usually order them online. It's not too hard to get the drivers you need from online so I would just go with any XP disk you can get your hands on. You'll be using your own license so you can even borrow one.
