Question about Dell Dimension 4700 PC Desktop
In this case the ide bus driver is missing and I dont really think it will be possible to rebuild it in this operation system ..Usually need to reinstall if the Hard disk is on a Ide -ata bus..(the wide ribbon plug ..)
but ..you can try to get into Bios by pressing the del button on start ,,and in there select the optimal factory default and save changes by pressing f10...reboot and see if this will put it on the right track again ..
If your hdd is on the Sata bus...it means the issue is simpler..cause the computer will announce you the driver is missing but will boot..and once in there all you need is to insert a cd with the operation system and from the device manager (right click on computer ..than properties..and hardware ....device manager ..)
In there ..look for ide chanels ..and look for the ones tha ar ein yellow with a ask sign ...and click right on them ..and update driver ..
The driver is built in windows..and it will install it automatically ..if not..just download the driver and run it..
If the hard disk is on Ide..and the computer do not want to boot...open the computer ..and move the hdd for a few minutes on the other ide controller....the secondary ...maybe this one as the driver and will work ..
pay attention that if you change the position ..from master to slave ..you have to change the jumper configuration according with instructions on the hdd..
if it works in another position ..just boot...install the missing driver ..and put it back like it was..
The solution that will not make you have to open it or ..slalom between the functions and cables..is to insert the recovery cd ..or the boot-able installation cd ..and make a repair to the operation system ..or a total reinstall..
here are the drivers for xp ..on this model...It seams that if you boot it and the automatic update to the driver do not fix it ..the driver is not available on the suport site cause it is built in windows..and you will need to reinstall it after all ..or if you want to keep the files and the configuration ..just make a repair using the recovery cd ..or the installation cd with the operation system ..
the best will be if it asks to insert the windows XP cd when you boot it ..in this case you could insert the cd ..and just repair the boot ..
