1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Toshiba c845 power jack broken. Help!

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Charging

Based on your description of the problem, it seems tome that you have a broken power socket (the one you plug the charger into in the laptop). The socket might be either broken, or its connection with the laptop's motherboard is bad. The laptop needs to be disassembled in order to replace or resolder the power socket.

check to see if the power supply is humming by pressing it firmly to your ear, if this is ok check the conection into lapotop by holding it at slight force to one angle then to another angle. if power supply dont have a humm it means its the power supply. if the laptop flashes on and off while you shake this wire it means its the conection faulty.

Doesn't power up, power light flashes 3 times when power button is pressed

Hello mate,
check that:
1. power supply is connected correctly to the electricity and from the other side to your laptop. 2. there is normally a light on the power supply, make sure that this light is one. in case it's off, that means the power supply is broken. 3. There is a charge light on the laptop which should be on once you connect the power supply to the laptop even tough the laptop is off. if this light is off, that means: a. the power supply is not passing the current to the laptop: you may test with another power supply. b. the power connector on the laptop is broken.
In the worst case, the motherboard maybe broken.

Battey not charging, red light flshing

Check the power adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage of the power plug that plugs into the power socket on the laptop should be slight higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If it is faulty, there are replacement power supplies available on the Internet or at your friendly computer shop.
If the adapter is OK then the power socket on the laptop is faulty or this socket has a dry solder joint connection on the motherboard.
You can test this by wriggling the power plug when it is connected to the laptop, if the charge LED flickers and if you hold this plug in a certain position the charge LED stays on without flickering, then the power socket is faulty.
This can be repaired, but requires the laptop to be completely
disassembled. I suggest you get a quote first.

Toshiba A205 won't charge unless I physically hold cord in

The most likely problem is the power socket on the laptop, it may be just a dry solder joint and needs to be resoldered or it may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Either way to fix this, it requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at this power socket. Get a quote to repair, as it could cost a few dollars. If it is a faulty cord/plug on the power adapter, this can be checked with a multi-meter. When you connect the multi-meter probes to the power plug the voltage should be steady and the reading should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the power adapter. If the voltages fluctuates as you wriggle the plug then you have a broken wire in the plug. Replacing the plug would not cost much.

Possible mishap with the power?

Three possible reasons why this has happened
1 - The power supply cord has a faulty or broken wire somewhere and needs repairing. Take a good look and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary (UNPLUG THE POWER CABLE FROM SOCKET AND COMPUTER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO LOOK)
2 - There could be a physical problem with the plug or socket for where it connects to your laptop and needs to repaired or replaced
3 - The computer has short circuited with the power cable socket in your laptop preventing any power for the Laptop

Hope this helps
