Question about Hampton Bay HBLG5004 Air Conditioner
The problem could be the capacitor for the compressor motor or the compressor motor. Use a multimeter with the capacitor test function to check it or take the capacitor to a heating and air supply and they can check it for you. If the capacitor looks swollen then it is bad. If the capacitor is good then use an ohmmeter to check the compressor motor windings. Connect one lead to common then the other lead to Run then Start, reading the meter when you connect the lead. The capacitor is a common failure.
