The problem could be the capacitor for the compressor motor or the compressor motor. Use a multimeter with the capacitor test function to check it or take the capacitor to a heating and air supply and they can check it for you. If the capacitor looks swollen then it is bad. If the capacitor is good then use an ohmmeter to check the compressor motor windings. Connect one lead to common then the other lead to Run then Start, reading the meter when you connect the lead. The capacitor is a common failure.

Electric fireplace #230811 model no. fl 23-r has no heat and no fan. doesnt say sunbeam or dimplex anywhere on it. resistance readings on thermostat and switches seem fine. It has a circuit board on it....

These models have thermal fuses in them. You can hear them click when the fan isn't turning. Mine needed the fan axle to be greased up. Once I disassembled it and greased it up with some High-Temp grease it ran like new. No more clicking off.

Compressor not engaging how can I check to make sure that it is not the freon or the compressor?

You could temporarly short out the low pressure switch to see if the comprressor comes on ... if it does ... you are low on freon. You will have to find and repair the leak and recharge.

The compressor fan not properly working.

You need to replace the fan. It doesn't use an external starter. Part 24 on this diagram is your motor. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=502485&diagram_id=124933#d124933

So my split fridge and freezer broke. the freezer works fine but the fridge doesnt get cold enough, even if i turn the knob to 7 (the highest).

first clean and remove dust and debris from under unit and make sure fan is working properly--next check the fan in freezer section for icing ,damage ,blockage ,or failure repair or replace as necessary the fan supplies the fridge with cold air from freezer
