I have the same problem on a DMR-EX85EB DVD Recorder, and the local approved repair tecnician told me I had to replace the DVD drive. The cost was in the region of £200, unless your machine is still under guarantee.

Hello,

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Take care.

Dvd no read error

The 'NoRead' error points to a faulty DVD-RAM drive. If the drive is making clunking/whirring noises, and taking too long to read an inserted disc, chances are the traverse unit (spindle motor/laser assembly) within the drive has failed. Unfortunately, this part cannot be replaced; you would need to replace the whole drive.

Look around for a good cheap used one, or, if you are prepared to do so, order a new drive (brand new DVD-RAM drives ordered through Panasonic could cost a couple of hundred dollars or more though so be warned). Check the model number on the top of the drive (prefixed with VXY before considering any replacement.

My xbox 360 wont read the discs. I've cleaned the discs and have started and stopped the discs numerous times yet it keeps asking to "Open Tray" then "Close Tray" followed be...

I think that your problem isnt that the discs need cleaning but infact the disc reader or the lens needs to be cleaned. try looking at best buy for a lens cleaning kit they are pretty cheap and easy to use hope this helped and good luck.

My macbook isnt reading any discs.

There seems to be a problem with the superdrives in the MacBooks. I had mine replaced under extended warranty last month. If your Mac is under warranty, bring it in to the Apple store.
Several macbook users in the past have had success with their optical drive reading disks by turning the laptop upside down and then inserting the chosen CD. Might as well give that a try in your situation.

Drives are available online. Let me know if you need instructions on how to r/r the drive.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

The disc is scratched or dirty. Try cleaning the disc with a proprietary disc cleaning cloth/fluid/kit.
