Question about Acer Aspire 5315 15.4-inch Notebook PC

1 Answer

My two year old Acer 5315 laptop on startup displays: Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as n external USB drive while the drive is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this message, contact the hardware manufacturer. File: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. When I change the boot order I get the same message and when I select F2 my password is not recognized. I have some brand new laptop hard drives. Is this what I need? I also have other newer laptops and no information needs to be recovered from the 5315 so I don't want to spend more than necessary. I have a disability which affects my fine motor control so I have to have any parts installed by techs. Any suggestions as to cause and solutions of this computer problem would be welcome. Thank you.

Windows crashes on startup because a device that should be there can't be accessed. Go into the BIOS and check the boot order: first should be the cd, second the hard disk and all the others disabled. After that just do a full reinstall. If the reinstall fails or the problem returns very quickly then you have a hardware fault - replace the hard disk.

Try reinstall the WEBcam driver.

Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you select the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers you that require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

Acer 5315 laptop ''eRecovery'' issue

Try going into the start menu, click run, and type in "msconfig" - without quotes. When that comes up, on the right hand side of the screen should be a tab labeled "Startup". Select that, and scroll through the list to see if the eRecovery is an option - you may be able to deselect it. Also check under the "Services" tab - it may be located there(If you check the box under the services list labeled "Hide Microsoft", it makes it much easier and safer to find/edit active startup services)

Computer restarted unexpectly or encountered an unexpected error

Seems like the preinstalled image is corrupt or there is a hardware problem. Contact Acer for the correct procedure since this is a new system. I could offer alternate methods if you have the Windows install disc, but it is best to contact the manufacturer as soon as possible so it is on record.
