Try re-seating the video cable to the video card, information is available here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/sm/display.htm#1001090

If re-seating has no effect, see if you can connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the back and get video by pressing Fn+F8. If you get video on an external monitor, the LCD is likely failed.

If the LCD is in question, you can try a new inverter 1st. Then if that fails, replace the LCD too.

Both are available here:

It sounds like you have a faulty screen, if under warranty contact support for warranty, otherwise take to a local tech to see if the problem can be rectified.

On startup, I am seeing the display go blank/inactive just after the xp splashscreen shows up. the system is still active, but no display. tried boot to disc. tried xp repair reinstall. What else could...

Hi,

This bad video drivers.

Restart the machine and repeatedly tap the F8 key. When you see the advanced boot menu appear choose safe mode.

You will see white text on screen that will stop on a system 32 driver, wait a minute and let it boot through.

Next, go do device manager and uninstall the display drivers.
Reboot the machine and it should boot into windows normally. You may have to reinstall the display drivers if they don't reinstall themselves.

Please post back if you need anymore help or advice.

Good luck.

Blank white screen in my Acer Travelmate 5730 Laptop

Hello Karthik,
This must surely be a problem with your monitor, because you say that you see the white screen while boot up. If this is a graphic driver issue, you may have the problem after booting up in windows. Since its been only a month old laptop, the product must be in warranty for sure. Take away any CDs in the drive, any USB drives and see if this white screen appears. Let us know.

Thank you!
Sabharish

Blank screen

When you turn the system on are there any LED indications on the CAPS LOCK, NUMLOCK or SCROLL Lock LEDs?
Have you tried connecting an external monitor and see if you get any video there?
From the text you posted, no video and no sound, it doesn't appear that they system is POSTing.
Some steps you can take are to remove the Hard drive and Battery and see if anything changes (You should get a no boot device error). If not change, remove the RAM and see if you get a beep code for no RAM.
If no change in any of those steps, the motherboard is most likely the failure point.
If you get video with and external monitor, reseat the video cable to the motherboard. If still no Video, Replace the LCD
If you get beep codes with the RAM removed, try RAM modules one at a time and see if system boots. If one works and the other doesn't then replace that module. If Both work in 1 slot or neither works, again motherboard.

Dell D600

Sounds like a driver might have gone AWOL. Can you go into safe mode? Usually by pressing F8 after the Dell logo you will be prompted to go into safe mode.

Go insto safe mode and once inside restart the computer. This will repair anything that may have shutdown improperly.

If you can, also change the resolution to the least available, normally 800x600. Once you get back into the "normal" session, you can set it to your liking.

See if this works for you.

Safe mode boots okay but not in normal boot - no error either

Do you have the original recovery disk? I recommend inserting the recover disk, restart the computer while continually pressing F12. Select boot from CD, press any key when asked, and you would want to do a "repair". That should fix your problem.
