I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. I left it running overnight and when I checked in the morning the screen was moving up and down. I tried playing videos in full screen and it does, too. It seems as if the screen was bouncing even though the laptop is still booting up. Please help.

Boot in the safe mode, see if issue still occurs (F8 at boot) if it does, then likely there is a problem with the Video Card or the LCD itself, I'm leaning toward the video card.
Try flashing the bios to current and installing the most current video driver, see if anything changes.

I am using dell 1420 laptop and i notice my screen gets split in 6 .can i get a solution for this?

Hello try to renew the display driver from here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/ussoho1/Product/inspiron-1420

If the driver does not help the screen must be renewed.

This will cost approx 200 dollars.

Good luck

On start up the screen will flash running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on Dell Inspiron 1420

Try to change the resolution of your computer to lower, restart the computer and see if the problem still exist. if the problem still exist try to reinstall the video driver of your computer. don't rewrite the driver of the video device, uninstall the driver then install again. if any thing happens feel to reply. Have you tried to uninstall the webcam, or to restore your computer to an earlier date? Would verify that the webcam software may be a problem.

Dell Inspiron 1420 will no longer boot

you need to enter setup by tapping one of the f keys or the delete key. i'm not sure which it is for this model. when you enter the bios setup change the boot order to boot to the dvd first. hit f10 and save the change then reboot with your install disk in the drive. it should start installing.

Left internal spkr not working

Try connecting an external set of speakers or headphones, see if you get both channels, if you do, then the speaker assy is bad and needs replacement.

If you only get audio on 1 channel externally, then check all the sound settings in Control Panel (make sure correct speakers are selected and the playback settings are all correct.)

Black Screen

Sounds like your graphics adapter isn't working correctly or there's a problem with something in Windows (I'm assuming you're running Windows XP). If so, restart your computer and hit F8 until you get a menu. Select Safe Mode and see if it boots up correctly. If it does, note any error messages you may receive and then shut it down. After shutting it down, let it start up on it's own and see if you get your picture back.

Over heating of my DELL INSPIRON 1420

The fan could be faulty (ie stopped spinning) or the heatsing vents are clogged with dust.
Remove the fan and check/clean the vents/fan. If the fan is faulty replace it.
