Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have a ES55 Samsung compact camera for over 1 year and it always worked fine. Now, for no apparent reason, when I press the switch button, nothing happens; the "press play button twice" doesn't work either, and when I connect it to the PC, the amber light get flashing but I'm sure the battery is charged. This seems to be a recurrent problem with other users, anyone has a suggestion to share, please?

Hi, thanks for your help. Unfortunatelly, none of your suggestions worked for me. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the lens as I don't see any error, warning or beep, the camera simply does not power on or give any feedback, it's dead. When I plug in the cable to charge the battery, the led gets amber and flashing, which means the battery is not charging but it's plugged in (otherwise the cable wouldn't give any feedback). I have cleaned the battery contacts as you suggested and I know for sure that the camera didn't ran out of power with the lens open as the last time I used it it was fully charged and when I turned it off everything was working fine. This seems to be some internal firmware problem, not related to lens or battery. Do you have any other suggestion, please? Here in the UK a simple repair will cost about £60, and I have paid about £80 for the camera, so I want to try everything I can before buying a new one. Thanks again, have a nice day.

The lens assembly could be stuck, or the battery could be low or weak. Make sure, first, that the contacts inside the battery are clean (clean them with a qtip and isopropyl alcohol). There's a couple of web sites that explain what things you can try to get it working, and they say about half the cameras can be made to work trying their suggestions:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
Even though the title of this page is lens errors, it applies to "stuck lens", and has steps to take to try to fix it.
This site is for battery problems, which is the other thing that might be going on with your camera:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/simple-fix-for-dead-cameras-that-wont.html
Try these things, and you have a good chance of getting the camera working again.
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.

could not find es55 referenced on the samsung.com website.

Try flipping the switch on the sd card to have it not write protected vs. write protected.

Hello, I have a samsung es55 camera and need to retrieve some pictures after they have been deleted. I have looked online and it seems this is possible through accessing the recycle bin, thought I can't...

I'm working on the premise that you've deleted the photos from your camera memory or memory card.

If you have and used them since, its unlikely that you'll be able to retrieve them, you could have already over written them.

Its unlikely that you've deleted to your recycle bin, thats on your PC, usually already on your desktop. Camera's normally delete for good.

However, check your pc recycle bin, just double click onto it, it should be on your desk top. Once open you can choose to restore deleted files.

There are 2 file recovery programmes available for free from "filehippo.com" called "recuva" and "PC Inspector File Recovery 4.0". Download and install either of these onto your pc and recover from you camera memory to your pc (just create a folder on you desktop".

Good luck.

Almost new camera (es55) but on of button doesnt respond unless you dig your fingernail in hard. If you just press normally it doesnt work

Sound like your spring in your button is not spring back like it should be. It would probably cost more than it would be worth to fix it. Sorry for the sad news. That what they done with digital cameras market. We had ares about three years and we had to get a new one because of the flash sensor went out.

I have an ES55 Canon and it works fine with the AC adapter but will not switch over when unplugged. The battery is fine and so is the spare battery that I bought unnecessarily. There was a post on your Q&A...

there is a switch inside the charging port of the camera that has gone bad. you can find them at lots of repair sites on the internet. (it replaces the entire charging port.) just be sure you are good at soldiering! there are a lot of tiny pieces right around it.

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
