Question about Acer TravelMate 6493-6495 Notebook

1 Answer

The screen remains blue and does not restore the desktop after it recovers from screen saver or is not in use for some time. The Laptop has to be forced shutdown keeping Power On/Off button for 5 seconds. After startup, the screen remains blue for 3-4 minutes and only after that the desktop icons are visible.

I have lost all my desktop icons on my medion laptop. Is there an easy way to recover them?

Firstly, we are to know one information, what has created this problem? Installation of any software or you have mistakenly done it? If the answer is second, then right-click on any blank portion on your desktop and click on "View" and select "Show Desktop Icons". But if your answer is the first one and the first solution didn't help you, then try to repair with System Restore. To do this, 1.click on the Start Orb, 2. Click on "All Programs", 3. Click on Accessories, 4. Click on System Tools, 5. Click on System Restore. Now select a day before the time when you got this problem, and click on "Next". Wait with patience, until your computer finalizes your operation by restarting automatically your computer. But remember, System Restore will restore any system files that has been changed after that day you selected for System Restore (i.e. Installed Softwares, System settings, Installed Drivers will not work properly and you have to install them again) but the normal files will remain unchanged (i.e. video, audio, document files, etc.) axn_almighty_6.jpg

Blue vertical line on my desktop

The blue lines are a sign that the screen itself is failing. You can try to reseat the data cables from the motherboard to the back of the screen, but in most cases this is indicative of an immenent screen failure.

Vista 64bit. A few days old. Now getting a blank white square in middle of desktop. If I refresh desktop, background image again fills desktop until I open another window, and then it is back.

That is very strange. I have seen virues do strange things with the desktop and screen savers before. Boot into safe mode (press F8 before Vista Logo comes up) See if you get the same problem.

Turn off any screen savers you have and run a full virus scan.

If this still doesn't fix it search for the system restore wizard in the windows help. Follow the instructions and pic a recent restore point. It should create a restore point each time you install something new.

This will remove the configuration (but not the files) for anything you have installed since the restore point. But one of those programs may have been the cause or your problem. So reinstall one at a time and test inbetween.

Good luck

I need to restore icons on desktop, tried to do so, nothing works. The screen saver has covered the entire desktop face. cannot remove it.

I am not sure that the screen saver is making problems.
Screen savers turn on after at least one minute of no activity, and turn off when you move your mouse or press a button on your keyboard.

Start your PC in 'SAFE MODE' . Are there your desktop icons?
Disable or uninstall the screen saver and and restart in 'Normal mode'.

Regards.

I cannot boot my vgc-rc310g after removing trogan horse (2ea)

Your laptop still has a virus. From your description, you seem computer savy. What u need to do is you need to boot your system with UBCD ( can be downloaded at www.UBCD4win.com) and search for files with the extension as .exe and delete the ones that look like folders.

then you reboot and try and log into your system. Next, download a software called Combofix. You google it out and get a download. run that to remove the remaining viruses and fix your regsitry.

I get a blue screen that says my computer was shut down to protect from crashing, and it says it dumped my memory

I recently saw a very tricky virus that made it look like my computer was getting blue screen of death. It was acutaly a virus that had replaced my screen saver. They had even faked the screens that made it look like it was rebooting. I had also been locked out of the screen saver functions so I couldn't turn it off.

I booted in safe mode and removed the current screen saver.
I also ran a full virus scan.

Blue screens are normally caused by corrpted system files or faulty hardware.
But I'd do the screen saver test first.
