Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

1 Answer

D Link air plus g extreme router

I keep having to reset my router on a daily basis almost to get internet access. I am wondering if the router is packing up or if the bellsouth modem and or line is the problem. The connections are very slow at times as well. I have never had this problem before as I have been using this setup for more than 3 years now. Is there a way to test the integrity of the router and modem?

Hi - Rvdb - somethings you can check.

Go to your command prompt. Start>run> type "cmd" in the box without the quotes and click ok. When you get to the command prompt, type "ping -t" There's a space between the ping and yahoo and also the .com and the -t This will ping yahoo with packets of info. Let it run for 3 minutes. Then ctrl + c together. Add a comment here with the results. Tell me % package loss, round trip minimum, round trip maximum, round trip avg. You can just say for example : 1%, 45min, 78max,49avg, and give me the TTL avg. Thanks.

I'll get right back once I hear.

You mentioned that you've been using it for at least 3 years. Have you updated the firmware?

    I cannot reset my password

Im presuming its your internet connection password ?

Your Internet service provider (ISP) requires a username and password to access service features, including Internet and email.

Your ISP should provide this information when you set up your Internet service.

Typically, once you complete the setup and save the information, your router or modem transmits it behind the scenes when you try to access the Internet.

As a result, the username and password can be easily forgotten because they are not used daily.

If you reset your router or simply forget the password, gaining access to network resources and the Internet becomes a challenge.

Call your ISP's technical support department.

Many ISPs set a default username and password for their routers.

If you didn't change the username and password, your ISP can provide the original information.

Before you hang up, make sure the information is correct by entering it and trying to connect to the Internet.

If the information is incorrect and you still cannot get a connection, keep the information for later reference.

    Call your router's manufacturer.

The manufacturer of your router sets a username and password prior to shipping the device to your ISP.

Look at the router for the contact information of the manufacturer.

Call their customer service or technical support department and ask for the default information.

    Reset your router.

If you changed your router's username and password and cannot remember what you entered, you may have to reset the router.

Insert the resource CD into your computer's CD drive.

When the software installation program starts, search the screen for "Resources" or "Documentation" or "User Manual."

Click the documentation link and search the table of contents for resetting the router.

When you reset the router, the username and password return to the default set by your ISP or manufacturer.

Enter the information provided by your ISP or manufacturer.

    Hope this helps.

Air plus extreme G wireless access point. DWL 2100AP I cannot access the unit I have reset for more than 30 sec but still when I type in the there is nothing.

The reset only restores the router to factory defaults, nothing should change the IP address needed to log on to it, it should stay at, have you connected the ethernet cable from your computer to one of the lan sockets?

Dear Sir/Madame, We purchased a D Link Air Plus Extreme G Model DL624 router in Miami. I'm now in South America. The note book computer shows connected, but since I do not have the CD to download it does...

You don't need a CD in order to use your router. You just neEd toconfigure it properly with your new ISP settings. To do that you canuse a CD or alternatively you can open this page in internet explorer: (user:admin pass:admin).

If you need assistance to configure your router please give me more details about your internet connection and your ISP.

Ok first thing to do here is to reset the router and reconfigure it back, To reset it just press an dhold teh reset button of therouter to 15 seconds while the power is ON then after that power OFF the router for 5 seconds, If you have teh setup CD of the router just run it to the main computer and let it reconfigure the router back for you, but if you don't have the setup Cd of the router you can manually configure it by accessing the router setup page if you're not familiar on how to that I will dvise you to contact Linksys tech support and let one of their tech walk you through with that process and also they updating the firmware of that router that will also help alot in solving your problem, this is the number for linkys 800-3267114....

    Username and password

You will probably need to reset your router to get access to it again with a known username and password. BEWARE THIS WILL PROBABLY RESET ALL CONFIGURATION INFORMATION AND YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETELY RECONFIGURE YOUR ROUTER INCLUDING POSSIBLY ISP SPECIFIC INFORMATION. If you cannot do this including knowledge of all the required answers and proceed anyway you may lose access to your internet connection until this is successfully done. Proceed beyond this point AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Follow the link below to determine the model of your router

    Router Link

As your profile indicates you are from Australia -- there is a link at the top of the page for a DI-624+ that may also apply to you.

If this does not work or your model is not a DI-624 as indicated try the following Assuming you have a DLINK router

    Go to
    Choose your country
    Choose Support
attempt to access product information -- if your model does not appear there may be legacy products link on the page to choose

    Download your user guide.

The following link may provide an emulator for your router to allow you to preview the configuration process (this does not configure your router. You may have noticed this emulators link earlier when accessing product information above, if you could not use the link.

    Emulators Link

Doing this will may require you to configure specific ISP required entries into your router to restore internet access, I do not know what those requirements are now. I may be able to research them if you provide information about your internet service provider such as their web site or help/support web site. Be aware that you will require all answers for this before doing it as you may not have internet access again after starting this until you successfully complete this. With all the previous warnings in mind you can consider the following step.

Using the instructions in the user guide you can probably reset your router and get access to the configuration.

    DI-704P unit power problem?

Unplugging the router resets it, I don't realy think its a power problem. The power pack contains a transformer that steps down (reduces) the power from 115V down to the 12V (or so, I don't really recall any more) the router uses. The byproduct is heat which can range from warm to uncomfortable to the touch. It?s not uncommon to have to reset your router and/or cable modem on some basis. At one time I had a DI-704 and had to reset it on a weekly basis to reestablish my Internet connection. At the time I thought it was my router but later it turned out to be a problem with my access provider supplied modem. How often are you having to power down the router? Who provides your access?
