It sounds like you have the dvd player set to the incorrect picture setting.
You need to make sure that bothe the tv and the dvd player are set on to either 'Auto' or 'Pal'or 'NTSC' depending on your region.
The chances are this is in relation to the TV picture settings and not the dvd player. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Panasonic tv, vcr, dvd combo gets black rectangle with text in it. what do i do?

There should be a closed caption button on your remote control. You will want to go into the CC settings and turn off the TEXT mode as that is whats causing the black box to appear. Please take a few moments to rate my answer.. Thanks..

DVD player only plays DVD in black and white - what's wrong?

Ok,
I'm not sure what you mean by digibox. Under what conditions are you able to see things in color? Is a digibox a seperate device you can get to work with the same connection as your player? If one device displays color on the same connection and another doesn't then that seems to rule out the television being the problem. Can you clarify a little more?

To solve "progressive mode" or any other problem on DV-266, just reset all setting to default, as follows;
Using buttons in front panel (not from remote control); - Switch off your DVD Player. - Press & hold STOP button, and press STANDBY/ON (power) button.
Good Luck & enjoy your Pioneer again.....
