Question about Olympus FE-280 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Focus Trouble All of the sudden, my camera won't focus. The menu works, & I can view old pictures clearly, but I can't take a picture w/o it being blurry. The lens does extend in & out, & the camera sometimes powers off. (Not always.) My husband swears up & down that he didn't drop, or do, anything to the camera. I didn't either. This camera is only 4 mos. old. What is wrong with my it? Lens problem? Could this be covered under warranty?

I have the exact same problem. Mine occasionally lets me take pictures but I can't zoom in or out or focus. Got any suggestions?

Same problem. Camera was working fine one day and wouldn't work the next. It has not been dropped or banged around. Only six months old. When I turm on the camera the lens goes out and in a few times and makes an unusual sound. Won't focus. Will take a picture sometimes but it is totally blurred. Other times it just shuts itself off.

I don't understand what happened either. I was using it earlier the same day that it began to give me trouble. I had never dropped it, it was even in its camera case. And when i take it out to take a picture, its messed up. It'll turn on, but the lens will appear stuck and go in and out a few times. The little red light will flash, as if it were low battery. But its green when i view my old pictures and they look fine, but if i try to take a picture, its blurry and it won't even focus when i press the shutter. I cannot zoom in or out, but when i do try the camera turns itself off.

This is extremely frustrating because the camera is not even a year old..9 months, actually. And it has not had any damage done to it. The problem is, I don't have a warranty with it. My parents bought the camera for me as a gift, but didn't get the warranty. Do i still try to take it in for repairs? Or just get a new camera all together?

I have the exact same problem. The owner's manual offers zero suggestions. Camera came with a limited warrenty...I guess I'll send it in.

I have exactly the same problem here. I bought my camera Dec 2007 (10 months old). I happened after I used the video mode for over 2 minutes. I haven't found the solution yet.

Good day,

The problem you might be having is that the view finder is out of focus.
If this is the problem it is an easy fix.
You will see a small wheel next to the view finder (it has a + and a - next to it), look through the view finder and let the camera focus on an object. Now turn the wheel and you will see the image either get worse or start to come in focus. Adjust the wheel until you are satisfied with the clarity.

Please let me know if this was helpful!

Adjust view finder focus as you will see setting there, to view correct focus in view finder itself.
Camera is just fine because it is taking good focus pictures.

There is a focuing ring with electromagnets on it, and it swivels to focus. When sand, dirt, lint, or dust works its way into the lens assembly, it can get stuck, failing to focus.
Spray some compressed air into the lens area to try to dislodge it. Then bump it gently if the compressed air doesn't work. Here is a list of things you can try for a jammed lens:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
If these don't work, your focus ring is jammed and you will have to fix it or have it serviced. Get an estimate first, since the cost of repair often justifies buying a new camera.
Good luck, these tips might help you.

Try resetting your camera. In your picture taking mode press MENU. Go to the SETUP tab and go up until you see RESET. Press your right arrow and make sure reset is highlighted and press set. If that doesn't work the Call the repairs center at 800-706-2534 and then keep choosing option 1.
