I had Microsoft Works 8.0 installed on my computer when I purchased it brand new at Best Buy. When I did a system recovery using the recovery discs for Windows Vista Home Basic, it disappeared and I do not have the disc to reload it. How do I get it back?
If the full version was part of the computer when you bought it, you will need to contact Best Buy to get the Works CD. They should have supplied you with one when you purchased the computer.
If it was a trial versionr and you later purchased the full version from Microsoft, you would want to contact Microsoft and let them know what happened.
In my previous experiences with both companies, you are probably in for a fight with Best Buy, but Microsoft is usually pretty good about righting the situation.

In a situation like this the vendor that built the computer will be able to help the most. If Microsoft Works 8.0 was provided by the vendor with the system then you should already have a license for the software. It appears that the computer vendor may have separated the "restore CD" and the "applications" that were bundled with the machine on separate discs. This is a common practice and some vendors build machines like this frequently. Gateway, E-Machines, Dell, and several others are known for this and it varies by model.
Getting a disc should be as simple as contacting the technical support hotline for the vendor of the computer. Once you've provided basic information, such as the model number and serial number of the computer, they should be able to send you the software you need.
If you have any questions please let me know!
