Hi Kaf,
You should have a recovery partition, you may be giveen the option to use it by tapping F8 @ start-up .
this may help 1. Power on the machine
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the "Alt" key and press the "F10" key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click "Restore to Factory Default Settings"
4. Click "OK" to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press "OK" to reboot unit
if the laptop has a floppy drive get a bootable win 98 disk. insert disk first then turn on comp. run w/o cr rom support. at command prompt type "fdisk MBR" hit enter remove disk and reboot. if still bad insert win XP disk and do the second repair not the first one let it run its course. if not well you will have to reimage the comp
Try from the Start Button, select the RUN command and type in:
chkdsk c: /r
It will open a black box saying it cannot perform when Windows is running and do you want try perform the check disk upon your next reboot. Type the letter Y and hit enter ...
Shut down and reboot. It should launch the disk check.
That MAY fix it. If not, you will need to find someone with installation disks ... :(
if you need to create a boot disk go to bootdisk.com all you have to do is choose which operating system you are running and download the programs. if you want to boot off a thumb drive or change your boot options follow the next link for detailed instructions including pictures.
after you boot it might give you the option to load additional files and restore? I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish but figure this will move you in the right direction.
