Try THIS software. Once you open it, choose "Cleanup" tab. On the left panel, choose "File Shredder". Select 'Add files' and select the offending folder/file and proceed to shred it. I also recommend running the Registry Booster software from the same site, along with this software. (You can find a software key from HERE)
Should even this fail, then Im afraid the only solution is reformat and reinstall OS. No other way..

How to download torrents or files SAFLEY

Many torrents or files downloaded from Lime wire, Bit torrent, and other torrent programs have viruses on them. There is a way to combat this so that these viruses cannot harm your computer. All you need is a flash drive or external hard drive. When you decide to download a file or torrent download on to the drive rather than your pc. Once it has been downloaded use a anti-virus program to scan the file. If the file is corrupt with a virus you can safely delete it. Should you open the file without scanning it and it does contain a virus don't worry there is still hope. Since the file is saved on a external drive or flash drive just reformat the drive and your computer will still be safe.

Acer Desk Top-DVD/RW-No Function,Virus in system,antivirus to be loaded.Data Backup & Formatting,reloading all software.

Your PC is virus infected. Although you can install anti virus and run update for your protection but still the antivirus software can't be installed. Since pop up notice tells you to back up files for reformatting, then you need to transfer all data to drive D. If your formatting is on drive C, your files on the other drive willnot be deleted as long as you have to reformat the drive for your OS,.
Install first antivirus after the formatting and update your virus protector. After that you can transfer and install some of components in your system.
Most of the times viruses destroys your CD ROM drive and other systems.
Hope this will help you.
Enjoy.

I have windows xp media center. my computer has been infected with some kind of virus. i have tried to reinstall my os but apparently the recovery partition is also infected and it will not let me...

You will need a bootable antivirus solution to clean the viruses off of the machine if it's that bad, or at least that is the easiest way I know of.

Look, here is the real deal, your PC when booted to the hard drive into windows OS has what are called OS protected files. That means that even the best scanner will not remove it totally from the machine while booted in Windows OS.

When you use a bootable AV solution it runs the OS from the CD, then when you are scanning the drive for those little nasties, it can be remove, because the OS on the drive is not protecting them.

However be aware when using this method, that any files can and will be removed!!! The way I look at it, if it's a virus I don't want it on my hard drive! period! Then once the virus is removed format and reinstall the OS. Sorry to hear about your Recovery Partition!

There are ways to make these yourself, but if you don't know what your doing, relax Bart has you covered!

Check that out, that should fix you up. Yeah I know this is not a free solution, but one I know will work!

Reformat an IBM NetVista desktop 8307

A reformat wipes out everything, windows, office, all your documents, pictures, music - everything. You will have a blank hard drive.

What is the virus you have and what have you done to try and get rid of it?

Severely infected by virus.

Save all your important files in a CD or DVD and reformat the drive. Once formatted and installed with fresh OS, install an antivirus program and get the latest update. Copy back your important files one at a time making sure these are subjected to the antivirus program. If the virus is difficult to remove, wait at least two weeks for new antivirus updates to be made and try removing the virus in the files once again.

I think the best thing to do would be to reformat the HDD and reinstall the OS. If you have the bootable OS CD, then I can show you how to overcome the need for admin password:

Free antivirus select your language and country, download and open, select run a boot time scan restart.
After the unit is virus free we'll work on the next problem, but rundll errors generally occur when infected by malware or trojans.
