    Sounds most to me like the plugin 0n the board for the HD is defective. If those drives you're mentioning read somewhere else then it looks like you've pretty much already narrowed it down.

    The drives mentioned all work on other boarsds read in bios fine. Heres my real question??? I have a megaraid 150-6d and works perfect all drives connected read and are initialized now when i try and put a OS on 1. OS setup says didnt find any drives on system. I used F6 during setup to load my drivers threw floppy but it still wont find initilized logical drives for some reason. So that when I went to just throw a ide drive in to run the OS but 1 and 2 ide's dont find ****. ALL though the mainboard bios does find the raid card when its plugged in ......So with that said how can I get this server back up without IDE Hard drives an setup unable to find the 4 drives currently on the raid card??????? I'm savy but im starting to get pissed off/ Its been 2 days since it crashed and im really missin out on the data involved here.....Thanks in advance...RADRIDZ3

Never put the CD on IDE 1
The IDE hard drive should always be alone on the first IDE channel.
CD-ROM drives can slow down the transfer rates and cause other screwups, and so they should always be on IDE2 or as high as possible (Add in Cards)

SOURCE: How to I connect my SATA DVD drive to the motherboard?

Hi Vicrod,

I'll need a better model number than "845" to give you a definitive answer, as ASUS doesn't name their boards that way. I suspect that the board supports the Intel 845 chipset and that's where the 845 comes into play. If you don't have the owner's manual, you'll need to look at the board real close; you'll find the model number stamped on the board. The good news is that if the board was built in the last 3 years or so it should have built-in SATA connectors (at least 2, probably 4 or more). If your DVD doesn't have the IDE cable and instead has a much smaller cable, it is in all likelihood SATA. In the worst case, even if your MB doesn't support SATA, you can buy a SATA PCI card to hook the drive up to for under $30. Finally, you can go to www.asus.com when you get the full model number. From there you can download an owner's manual that will have the SATA ports labeled.

I hope this helps you. If you think it appropriate, a fix-ya rating would be much appreciated.

Trying to install Windows XP SP1 onto HD with this Motherboard. System will not boot from HD to start install.

Make sure your IDE hard disk drive is connected to IDE1 port and that the data cable is fully connected. Also check the jumper on the IDE drive. If you are using only one IDE hard disk drive set the jumper on the drive as a Master without a slave. If you are running two IDE hard disk drives set the primary drive's jumper as a Master with a slave. Set your second IDE disk drive's jumper as a slave. The master drive should be connected at the end of the data cable and the slave drive should be connected to the next data connector. Than check your bios settings. Power on the system and press the Delete key every 2 seconds until the bios menu loads. See page 3-1 in your manual. If you need the manual for the NF8-V MB click on the link provided below and download it;
http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/motherboard/motherboard_detail.php?pMODEL_NAME=NF8-V&fMTYPE=Socket+754
You'll also need the program Adobe reader to view the manual. Adobe reader is a free download; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
Once you’re in the bios go to page 3-4, Standard CMOS Features.
Follow the instruction listed for IDE HDD Auto-Detection. Your HDD should be listed here. Than see page 3-7 in the manual. Open Advanced BIOS Features. A normal boot menu for the Abit would read;
First boot device Floppy disk drive (If one is connected). 2nd boot device should be (CD-ROM/DVD-ROM). Third boot device should list your primary hard disk drive's (Model number). Load your windows CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Once the settings above are set, press the F10 key to save your changes and exit the bios. Your system will auto restart. Windows should begin to load.

Cheers!
Mike

IDE Ports not working on ASUS P5LD2-VM Mobo

Good Day sir, hi, Have you tried to enable the IDE on BIOS setup. If the Bios setup did not solve the IDE problem, check the IDE port of the HARD drive, check if there are bent pins.
If still wont work, you can buy a PCI to IDE/SATA card, this is an expansion card in PCI format with IDE and SATA port.We use this card incase the IDE or SATA on the motherboard gets bad. Connect it on the available PCI slot. Then connect the IDE cable of the Hard disk to this card. Thats it.

Need Motherboard manual (including how to gain access to BIOS)

for the manufacturer's name and the model number you will have to physically open the case and examine the mother board. With that information you can visit the manufacturer's site for documentation

ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard configuration

Serial ATA drives are pretty much plug and play. You just need to install them and set them up as a primary drive in your bios settings. The IDE devices can be connected on the same ribbon cable but need to have jumpers set on the back to determine which device is primary or slave. If the IDE devices are on different ribbon cables then most likely the hard drive jumper setting should be set to master or master (single drive). The CD-ROM drive jumper on master. BIOS should detect all drives You also need to assign the boot order in BIOS. CD-ROM should be the first boot device to load and install the new OS onto the primary hard drive.

Cant boot from CD Drive.. cannot be seen in the bios

Make sure the hard drive is connected to the ide cable that has a blue end. Don't connect anything else to this cable. when the pc is booting up watch the screen for the option to enter setup usually Del, or F2. Once into the bios see if the boot options are set to cd first and ide 0 second. You can also see if the hard drive is being detected in the bios.
Hope this helps. Let me know.
Thanks,
Henry

Try Hirens Boot CD. It has a lot of programs on it to detect format etc.
I think your hard drive has a missing or corrupt MBR and it needs to be replaced.
When I have had a hard dive not recognized I hve used Super Fdisk to format and reset hard drive.

Trouble

Hello didot05,

It is possible that you may have a deffective hard drive. However, I would suggest checking your IDE cable to make sure they are connected. Then go into your bios mode to see if *********** reconizes the hard drive from there. If you are not able to see the hard drive through your bios, you may have a deffective hard drive and may have to replace the hard drive.

I hope this information helps.

Sincerely,

Agent Xiong
