Question about Computers & Internet

I ran a scan on a updated version of PC Tools Spyware in Safe mode. Under Computer Advanced settings, I unchecked Drive and created a new restore. I have system problems with this version, and I cannot find old versions.

What exactly the problem you are facing.

  • d_par Sep 05, 2010

The problem computer has Vista as its OS.

  • d_par Sep 05, 2010

The Vista OS is doing a little bit better. When I hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete, it shows a message Security Options instead of Task Manager.

Does your software work on Vista systems also to stabilize it?

You can check the drive option and see whether those include your removable disks, CD-ROM drive or hidden volume for factory default restoration. You need to check at least one drive which may be your primary hard drive partition such as your C: drive to start a scan. Sometimes error will raise if you don't have the permission to write the data to the location you specify for the restore. Make sure you run the antivirus with administrator privilege. In Windows Vista, you can right click on it and choose to Run as Administrator. And make sure the drive is writable such as your C: drive. Sometimes there might be conflicts when you run multiple antivirus there. So disable other antivirus at the time. If the issue persists, you may like to burn a bootable CD with that antivirus and boot with that CD instead of running it under your Operating System if that option is available.

Thanks for accepting the help. Your OS files are probably got conflicted with the new and uncompilable version of PC Tool. Try following steps. Restart the PC, Press Delete for some time It will lead you to BIOS setting Go to the Boot Priority menu, select DVD ROM as First Boot and HDD as Second Boot
Now Insert your Operating system CD Restart the PC and when screen says " Press any key to continue" hit "enter" Let the CD load and then select New Installation It will say " Microsft WIndows XP found aNOTHER INSTALLATION IN drive C and will show you one installation entry,It will show you two option, Fresh Installation, Repair. Select repair by pressing R
Now let the CD repair your OS files. After complete OS loading, system will restart and again you will see " Press any key to continue" DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY.
OS will boot and you will log in with your old login enteries.
Now Install the free avg antivirus from below link: http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download-free-antivirus
Install and update it. Run a complete system scan. You are good to go !

Use an external memory device such as a DVD, flash drive or external hard drive to back up the data you need to save from your eMachines computer.

Any data that isn't saved to an external source will be erased when the computer is restored to factory settings.

Remove any discs that are in the optical drive and unplug the computer's peripheral devices, such as an Ethernet cable or scanner.

Do not disconnect the keyboard, mouse or monitor.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and choose "All Programs."

Navigate to "eMachines" and choose "eMachines Recovery Management."

Click the "Restore" tab.

Click "Password Settings" if you have not already set a recovery password.

Type a new password in the text box and click "OK." Click "Restore System to Factory Default."

Type the recovery password and click "OK." Click "Next" to wipe the eMachines computer's hard drive and begin the recovery process.

Select "Finish" and wait for the eMachines computer to restart.

Use the series of installation prompts that appear on the screen to create a new user account for your operating system, set the system date and time, and set up your Internet settings.

Facebook, Yahoo, Google don't open in Chrome or Ie, only in Firefox.

You said that the sites u mentioned are working perfectly in safe mode r8?? It means that some program is there which is blocking access to these sites in normal mode.. Do the following
1. Disable all startup items and services in safe mode .
2. Restart ur pc and open it in normal mode.

Now check weather your chrome or IE8 browser can access to these sites.
THank you

Uninstall Avast Antivirus, download ComboFix from here and run in in Safe Mode.

After all is OK, just install one antivirus, I recommend Avira.

What antivirus have you installed on your computer. Have a ran a scan to remove the virus/spyware. We can go to safe mode, uncheck the system restore option from my computer properties, run a scan and then restart. If that also does not work, then we have to either try to repair or reinstall the OS. Let me know if you need any guidance.

Got spywareguard 2008 on my computer froze me up want to install factory settings on my dell latitude 6oo

try and boot into safe mode by pressing f8 after the dell logo, pick safe mode with networking. if it shows all your icons get online and download the spyware scanner from malwarebytes.org install and get the updates, and download the virus scanner avast home www.avast.com thats free and do a full scan with both programs

Spyware Guard 2008 is a new entrant to the family of rogue security software. It is not to be confused with SpywareGuard a fine freeware from Javacool software.
A rogue security software belongs to a family of software products that call themselves as antivirus, antispyware or registry cleaners and often use deceptive or high pressure sales tactics and deliberate false positives to convince users into buying a license/subscription. They are often repackaged and renamed. They do not actually remove malware instead many of them add more malware of their own

I have a virus and stmanteec antivirus notification keeps popping up on my screen: What can I do??? Help Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan Event: Threat Found! Threat: Trojan.Zlob File: ...

If you have a virus you can not delete or if your system will not boot up correctly and you suspect a virus is the problem, a recommended solution is to start your computer in safe mode and run a virus scan. By running your computer in safe mode, non-essential processes do not start and non-core components are disabled. In other words, only the minimum necessary programs will load. Tough to remove viruses, spyware and other malware usually have no chance to run and disrupt your system and can more easily be removed.
**To run a virus scan in safe mode, you must have active anti virus software installed on your computer.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, follow these steps:
  1. If your computer is on, shut it down
  2. Power on your computer
  3. Immediately after you power on your computer, repeatedly press the [F8] key (about once per second)
  4. In the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrows to select Safe Mode and presss [Enter]
  5. Select your current operating system and press [Enter]
  6. Select the user you would like to login under (if applicable)
  7. When your system finishes booting, click the Start button on your task bar
  8. Move your cursor over All Programs and navigate to your anti virus program
  9. Click on your antiv virus program to run it and follow the anti virus program’s normal steps to run a virus scan
  10. After the virus scan is complete, Delete all detected viruses
  11. Close out of your anti virus software
  12. Restart your computer (it should start in normal mode)
