SOURCE: Kenwood car stereo KDC-W3534 : warning message PROTECT

This is a safety feature and it usually suggest that there is a problem with the internal amplifier, it could also be a trapped speaker wire. Remove the radio and check if any of the cables have been damaged and if you power up the radio with the speaker plug disconnected that will tell you if the fault is in the car or the radio

SOURCE: My kenwood head deck

Hi,

A "PROTECT" message/display normally indicates a problem with your speaker or your speaker wires. Pls check for any open or shorted (busted speakers) or if any of the wires are touching the chassis/ground.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: Kenwood kdc-148 is in protect

A car audio component like an amplifier (or in this case a headunit) is most likely to go into protection mode when there is a short in one of the speaker outputs-- in other words, if the + and - ends of one of the speaker leads are touching, this can cause damage to the internal amplifier of the unit. Some units will respond by putting the amplifier into "protection" mode, so that it does not damage itself. Check connections on the back of your unit, or take it back to the shop that installed it.

How do I install KDC-MP146 ( kenwood mp3/cd tuner) personally?

depends on the car, but id say go buy the wiring harness adapter from best buy or radio shack for your particular car. wire it onto your stereo then plug it directly into the old radio harness in your dash.its really not that hard unless you have a newer car with factory gps, or whatever.

Installed a Kenwood KDC-MP146 and each time i turn off the car ignition I have to reset the stations, clock and cancel the demo mode. Is this a wiring problem and have i incorrectly connected the system?

you have connected the constant power (battery (yellow)) and the ignition wire (red) around the wrong way. this is a very common mistake that I come across and easily rectified. it should take you about five min to fix.
I hope this helped and please dont forget to rate my solution.
cheers

Kenwood KDC-MP732 CD Player in protect mode how do i get it off had a blown speaker fixed it and still in protect mode

Protect Mode (Blink): The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle, and then the protection function is activated.

Solution: Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button.

Here is a copy of the Instruction Manual for the Kenwood KDC-X790 and KDC-MP732.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

Protect:- The speaker wire has a short circuit, or touches the chassis of the vehicle, then the Protect function is activated. Wire or insulate the cable properly and then press the reset button. If the "Protect" code does not disappear, consult your nearest service centre.
