When I feed paper into my shredder it shreds it but it will keep running and i cannot leave it in the auto position, i have to put it in the off position. what could be the possible fixes to this issue? thank you, your help is greatly appreciated.
Some shredders have optical sensors with a dark sensor LED on one side of the slot, and a clear transmitter LED on the other. You will most likely have to disassemble the shredder housing to clean them.
MAKE SURE TO UNPLUG THE UNIT.
Generally you will find screws on the underside of the shredder unit, with one screw covered by a "warranty void if broken" sticker. Remove these screws, separate the housing, and clean the optical sensor pair with windex or isopropyl rubbing alcohol. If your shredder has a CD slot, it may have its own sensor pair. Be sure to clean both pairs of sensors, as the CD sensors seem to be the ones that have the most trouble because of small aluminum debris.

Very simple. It automatic mode, a small flag sensor is lifted when it paper enters the rollers. When this happens, this will turn on the shredding rollers. When the paper passes the flag sensor, the rollers stop turning.
What's happening is that a small amount of debris is stuck at the sensor. If your model has a reverse switch, try using that. If not, try manually pulling the stuck threads from the bottom. Once you get it unclogged, that should help.
The sensor is located in the middle of the rollers.
