Installed new Color Print Cartridge, even old one won't work now, something came loose?

Installed new HP cartridges, never a problem before, B/W is OK, but color one, its like it won't read that its there or something. Light blinks, message boxes on screen that I need to remove the protective piece of tape (already have). I took out the old one and replaced it with the new one the same as always, with the problem I put the old one back in. At first the old print cartridge seemed to be ok, except that its out of ink. Now, it won't recognize either the empty or the new one. Is it not making contact? Is there a wire loose? This seems to be a mechanical problem. Help help......

    Installed Black and color cartridge. Printer won't recognize that the color cartridge is there and the light for the color blinks. Nothing will print unless I take out the color cartridge and print only with the black. I was printing OK until I ran out of ink and needed to replace the cartridges.

    Installed black cartridge; checked the date before installing it, and it expires next year. It goes through the process of printing, but does not print from new black cartridge at all: after selecting in properties "use only black cartridge", it printed out blank pages.

    My elementary school has had the plastic that holds the wire spring break in 5 printers over the past 1.5 years. Has there been any recall or cheap fix? Or is this planned obsolescence?!?

I work for the State of Alabama IT dept. and we have plenty of the 6540's in use. A very common problem I see every other week with these printers is the wire "spring" which is clearly visible when you remove the ink cartridge, will come loose and puncture through the data ribbon behind the ink cartridge. Examine the data ribbon for any signs of damage such as a hole or tear. If it has been damaged, the printer will definitely have some kind of error with that ink cartridge slot.

I believe there should be a recall on this model, as there is a small piece of plastic (that holds the wire spring in place) that frequently breaks. This flimsy plastic retaining piece has been reinforced on the newer 6900 series printers.

Clean the inside contacts (that are on the printer) with alcohol and a rag or a q-tip. Let dry for a few minutes and the light will go off and you should be ok to print with color.

    Also there is a wire(spring) attached to the right side of each cartridge holder. Compare the two and make sure each are firmly locked in position. Use a small screwdriver to pop it back in place.

    On my HP 6540, the light for the color cartridge started blinking and the printer would not print, I took out the color print cartridge and placed a piece of scotch tape over one of the contacts on the very left side one down from the top, replaced it into the printer and it has continued to print. And it still works today. I guess it tricks the level sensor.

The color print cartridge is apparently defective in some way.

I had one that took the metal plate off when I pulled the tape. Didn't notice until I had the same thing that you are talking about happen. When I took it back the sales person pointed to the date on the box and said "it's expired". Evidently they DO have a shelf life. I then showed him the receipt where I had bought it a few days before. They gave me a new cartridge. I now check the dates (like milk) before I buy them and before I use them.

How do I make a test page for my printer to check color.

You need to clarify :
1. Your printer cannot print color even though it prints color well from a test page;
2. Your printer cannot print color in a test print page.

If it is the first one, then you have to set it properly in Window Print Configuration page of that printer;
If it is the second one, then you have to check whether you have installed the color ink cartridge properly in the printer. If the color ink cartridge is installed properly, try to replace another new color ink cartridge. Finally it is still not work, then you have to bring back to the repair center.

My hp photosmart 5514 won't print. I put in new ink-black and color- and it goes through the motions, but the page is empty

I just had this exact problem on my HP 5514. Black won't print after running out of black ink. New cartridge no good.
I tried everything-no good. I suspected the pinholes in the printhead were clogged with dried ink because I didn't change cartridge in time.
The fix that worked perfectly was when I hacksaw top off old black cartridge & removed all foam wicks so now I had a funnel(can see clear thru). I installed the cartridge & filled it with alcohol, printed page & did head clean; then printed few more pages. Problem cleared almost immediately. I then soaked up extra alcohol inside cartridge with paper towel. Removed modified cartridge & installed good one. I guess this could be done for colors as well. I don't know if this is a proper procedure, but it sure worked well for me.

New Cartridges - not all color ink printing!

It sounds that the ink inside the cartridge has partly dried up.

This can happen to my printer when I don't use it for a couple of months too.

New tri-color cartridge has a problem. I can't see what.

I have an HP Photsmart C4100 printer. I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges (both black and tri-colored) from Vivasmart. The black one works fine, but when I installed the tri-color, I got an error message that says "Print cartridge problem" The following print cartridge has a problem:
And I can't print. The screen on my printer says "Remove and check color cartridge." I have done this several times and it still won't print. I have turned off the power, removed the cartridges, and unplugged the unit, but it still didn't help. Any suggestions?

Hp officejet 6110 not printing with black ink

Hi lilacky-

Here are some HP support links that might be helpful... and a couple questions to consider.

Q: Is your new cartridge one of these listed below?
"The HP Officejet 6100 series and HP Digital Copier Printer 410 products use the print cartridges listed below:
* HP 56 black print cartridge
* HP 57 tri-color print cartridge
* HP 58 photo cartridge (replaces the HP 56 black print cartridge for six-ink photo printing)" info from: Installing a Print Cartridge Is your new cartridge a refilled cartridge? Some times those have special challenges. Has your cartridge been sitting a while in the box, maybe in a warm spot? Some times even new cartridges dry out a little. Was your old cartridge low or completely gone? Just as a test, if you put it back in your printer does the old cartridge work? Any printer error messages? Can you print a test page or an alignment page for your black cartridge? These might be too many questions but here are some HP support links with some How To information for getting more answers. Please let me know if any of these are helpful. see also: Slow or No Response from Printer -JW

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
