Question about Olevia LT42HVi 42 in. LCD Television

This is what happened with my Olevia LCD TV 242 T11 before and I asked an expert on here to help me find the problem. Here is the conversation. ANGELRQUINON on Jun 26, 2010 I was watching tv yesterday and the breaker tripped. When I turned it back on the tv would not power up. The little blue led on the front was not lit either. I think it might be the power supply or if it has it fuses then the fuse went out. What do you think happened? RULDS2008 Yeah you might have blown a fuse, in saying that you might have pop a capacitor and a resistor as well who know until its looked at, Lets start with the fuse if you put a new fuse in and it pops then you know you got something else wrong. I would not just assume and try this I would take it to a shop, but if your a expert and know what your doing in this area check your fuse, 1. fuse 2, other components if fuse pops again such as capacitors or resistor. thanks for using fixya please do click the accept button for my efforts. ANGELRQUINON We tried two new fuses of the same voltage capacity that was in the tv when we bought it. Both fuses got burned out as soon as they received power. What could be the problem now? Is it the capacitors or the resistors? RULDS2008 would be the capacitor for sure!! Resisters could have been involved as well. thanks for you replay and only the accept button closes the case, do not waste your money on any more fuses take it in be done with it, TOY_LADI Hello, What happened to your television is that the power panel of the television is what got affected when the breaker tripped. So your television is not receiving any form of power when plugged to an electrical source. That is why the blue led is not coming up either. Once you can fix the power panel of your television, then it will be able to come on. Take care We took the advice from Toy_Ladi and bought a new power supply and installed it. The good news is that the blue led came on which means that the tv has power but the bad news is that the screen is not turning on. I don't know what else could be wrong because the power supply is new and we plugged everything in correctly. Please let us know what else could be wrong. Thank you.

Hello,

since you have changed the power supply and the TV is not displaying, then the next to check you the TV's line transformer.

There is a rubber pipe with a rubber head that enters into the tube of the TV. Trace this pipe down to the TV board and you will see the line transformer on the TV board. This transformer carries current into the TV tube. So its either this transformer is defective, or there is no current passing into/through it.

I believe the line transformer will solve the problem this time.

Note that this transformer stores high of current so wait till for some time before tampering with it.

Good luck.

There is a component in the TV which sends electrical currents to a first screen which excites the LCD and sends a signal to the second screen which creates the picture.I do not know the technical name for it other than to call it an emitter. That easily could have fried with either a short in something or a lightning strike which will trip a breaker.Excessive current. If you have a meter or test light and you can locate the output, check the meter from that to ground. My computer was fried in a lightning storm last year. When we bought a new one,we looked around for a REAL surge protector. The ones at regular stores for $5-$15 shouldn't even be allowed to be labelad as a surge protector. We ended up buying a Belkin. They are a little pricier but they back it up with a monetary guarantee.I think the smallest one they have is 6 outlets and is about $50 but guarantees at least $50k.I called to ask and no matter what is plugged in,if it fries from their product, they reimburse you for whatever you lost,no reciept needed. It costs more but I am much more happy to have that.
The screen could have fried, but seems less likely because LCD is a little more tolerant.Let me know how you do.Good luck! Greg

By the way,if you replace the emitter and you end up with some funky colors on the screen, you will probably have to replace the screens. They probably come together as 1 component. It doesn't even seem possible to have one or the other alone.Obviously a tripped breaker means a high current in an instant so anything could happen.I do not know the exact properties of liquid crystal but I do see many color related problems with the LCD TV's.Greg

Firmware update Failed

I had the same problem with my olevia 242-T11. I flashed it with the wrong firmware and the TV would not even turn on. The blue LED light would still light up and my PC would still recognize a connection when i hooked it up to the USB cable connected to the TV.

I was fortunate to download the appropriate software. The software is called MTK_DownLoad1.exe. I know this is the correct software to use for Olevia 242-T11 and Olevia 237T. I do not know if this will work with other models.

Here is the link to the MTK_DownLoad1.exe
http://rapidshare.com/files/17475900...load1.zip.html

You will also need to install the USB to Serial driver before you are able to use the MTK Download Utility. The USB Driver is located at
http://rapidshare.com/files/17475900...river.zip.html

BE SURE ONLY TO UPDATE YOUR TV WITH THE CORRECT SOFTWARE OR YOU WILL BRICK IT. I was lucky enough to recover my TV and finally able to upgrade it to the correct firmware but my TV was non functional for about a week and this has been a huge headache and if i could go back in time i would definitely not do it so please ask yourself if its even worth it risking upgrading the firmware of a TV who parent company is reorganizing after declaring bankruptcy.

If you still want to do this, here are the firmwares for all the various Olevia models.

http://olevia.ftpaccess.cc/support/OLEVIA/

I hope this helps all the people who need to recover / unbrick their Olevia TV's. If the links are down or you need any help please ask for help in avsforums. My id is sammykismail on avsforums and i will try my best to help you.
