    card not initialized

  • Anonymous Jun 29, 2008

This always happens when I hook up to my girlfriend's Mac. iPhoto does something to the memory card...never happens with a PC though. Fix is the same - reformat the card!

I am having the same problem with my S5500. 1GB memory card. the camera is saying the card is not initialised, and when I attempt to format the card in my PC it tells me the computer was unable to format the card.

this is the first time i have had troubles with this, and as a result I have lost 1000 photos that i was in the process of transferring to my pc.

is there anything else I can attempt to do to have this card saved?

    thank you.

If you have no data on the memory card, you should hook up the card to the computer. If your computer doesn't have a slot to insert your memory card, hook the camera up to the computer. Then format the memory card (if you don't know how to do that, reply and i'll type it out for you...)

When i turn on my fujifilm s5500 i cannot take any photos or view and photos, if i format the card on the camera it than says card full. Than if i turn the camera off and than on again it comes up with...

I downloaded a PDF manual for your camera to make sure what I was about to say was indeed correct. My first impression/thought about this problem is that your camera Firmware is not capable of that size a memory card. I looked into the card capacity and according to the PDF manual you camera takes an XD - Picture card the capacity on the original Firmware is for 512mb here is a chart.
XD Card Max covers the S5100 and S5500 models

You may be able to go onto the Fujifilm web site and actually update your firmware.

Another thing that came to mind is that these cameras are often "clock" dependent and if the camera batteries have been removed for some time the clock date and time may also be giving an error. However my first impression is that the memory card is to large in capacity.

Keeps saying card not initialized why ?

It just means that you need to format a new card in the camera before it will work properly. Go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

Fuji s602z CF II card not initializing

I've bought a SanDisk ExtremeIII 4GB CFI card. Ofcourse, at the beginig nothing worked. Camera format command worked neither (initializing problem,...). I then formated my card through a car reader on fat16 and now everything works. Just make this command: format <volume>: /FS:FAT. After checking and formathing the card, you will be asked to go on by 64K size of cluster. say Yes.

Fiji Finepix S5500

solved my own problem, but for the benefit of others.
the camera is held together via about four/five small phillips screws. these need to be removed. the back of the camera will come away from the body. Make sure you don't pull too hard as there is a small connecting ribbon between the camera and the rear circuit board attached to the back. This ribbon is held in place at either end by small brown/tan coloured clips that hinge up to release the ribbon and down to clamp the ribbon to the connections. Try removing the ribbon ends and replacing it. If you are careful you can do this with batteries in place. Make sure you have your card in place, it won't work otherwise. I just realigned the ribbon and the camera works wonderfully. Might help with other errors. also a small ribbon attached to the multi function button, may have the same result for other problems. good Luck.

Card not initialized

you said 'I can't develop the pics.'
Explain what you are trying to do here
The message no intitalized could also mean not formated.
Have you had images on this card before or is it a new one?
Much more detail required.

I had the same problem and considered buying a 512MB Xd card. However I simply reformatted my 1MB M type Xd card and I am back in business. I can record 15 minutes of 640x480 on it. Hope this solves your problem it is the cheapest fix around.

Card problem

Could be a problem with your card, if possible try connecting the car to the PC without the Camera, maybe through a printer if you have media slots.. then try going to my computer and right click on the card and format

If this doesnt work either it seems like the card is faulty

Hope this helps you

While the camera is on, press menu and go all the way to the right. Choose "Set-up" and it will take you to a window with several tabs. Choose the tab called "1" and then choose to format the card here.

FinePix S5100 v S5500 in USA?

I don't know what the difference would be between the 5100/5500, but make sure it has the NTSC feature (US standard video out), Not just PAL (as in some european countries), or it won't playback correctly on your TV. I got my 5100 from Sam's club, and bought the same 256 olympus card at that time, it works just fine,,, but no panorama on the Fugi. I don't know about the warranty, read the card for more info, check the address for repairs, is it American?,,, Ok, good luck
