I purchased a used HP keyboard mod 5187-7583 but my computer does not recognize it. I'm using Windows 10-64. Do I need to download drivers for this keyboard?

It could be the "adapter", read this The pros and cons of PS 2 to USB adapters and converters

If you really, really like this keyboard you could always install one of these 2 Port USB 2 0 2 Port PS 2 Combo to PCI Adapter Converter Card NEC Chipset

Personally, I don't see the sense this is a old keyboard and HP didn't even release Windows 7 drivers for it, forget about Windows 10. This means that none of the special function keys or media control will work.

Where can I find a driver for Windows 98 USB wireless adapter

Windows 98 needs an USB driver for your adapter. A USB driver should have come with your adapter, if not got to the adapter manufacturer's WEB site and download a Windows 98 USB driver that is specific to your adapter.

As you mentioned, your Compaq Presario MV520 is using Windows 98 OS. As we all know, dial-up connection is the only available internet connection at that time so obviously Win 98 has dial-up LAN connection. However, you wanted to have wireless connection on that PC so you need to install a wireless adapter to that PC. First of all, most wireless adapters that are being used for desktop PC are wireless USB adapter, so you need to have a USB port on that PC. And also, you will need to check if the software for the wireless adapter will be accepted by the PC because since the PC is using Win 98 OS, we are not sure if the firmware of the wireless adapter will be compatible to the PC. Basically, my answer would be not possible.

Compaq Presario 5220 Desktop Windows 98 internet: Dial-up Can a DSL card be installed or would I need to go with a wireless USB? And would wireless USB work on Win98?

You can install a network card inside the computer. You will need a PCI or an ISA card. (I know PCI network cards are easy to find at most of the computer shops.) See this site for how to install a card: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07111&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=93139 . However you should open your computer and check the space between the devices in the slots in the computer. There is an AGP slot with a video graphics card, 1 PCI/ISA slot with a modem (default specs), one free ISA slot and one free PCI slot. However depending on the graphics card one of these slots may be blocked by the card. You'll either need to get a card that fits the available slot or remove the modem and use that slot.

Here are some PCI 10/100 network cards: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=587&name=10-100%20Ethernet%20PCI/ISA . Most of these are compatible with Win98. I'm not sure if there are any gigabit NIC with Win98 drivers.

Wired and wireless USB NIC adapters exist. However, you will be limited to the USB speed. If you have USB 1.1, that will be really slow. Most likely your computer will require a reboot anytime the connection is lost.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(who recently removed an internal modem to put in a PCI gigabit card in a newer desktop than yours. The procedure was straightforward and improved network performance in the household immensely. The failing on-board NIC was tying up the router for everyone.)

If you are using USB connection to connect to the modem, you need the installation disc. If you are using NIC port (network port), you do not need the disc.

Trying to install windows and at the boot screen have my keyboard and mouse plugged in windows doesnt see it.. I tried the USB keyboard and nothing I just recently replaced the MOBO using anti-static wrist...

I have seen this before, and the best answer I can offer you is some Motherboards are better than others when working with usb devices while no OS is in place. I actually tried using usb / to / ps/2 adapters and it still would not recognize the usb keyboard in a couple of instances. I had to get a ps2 keyboard for the installation of windows. After windows was installed I hooked up the usb keyboard and it worked fine. (just speaking from my own personal experience here)

Sorry I do not have a more technical answer for you but I'm almost 99.9 % sure this should work, providing there is no problem with the ps2 keyboard port on the Motherboard. I have never failed to install windows unless there was another hardware based issue of some kind, but never a problem with a known good ps2 keyboard.

Just double check everything is seated properly and try to get into the bios setup, if you cannot use the usb keyboard for this, you can try the usb / ps2 adapter, but if that doesn't work either then use a regular ps2 keyboard. That should work fine, then after setup is complete, windows is installed, then your usb keyboard should work fine.

The software package just doesn't work well with older peripherals that use legacy parallel or serial com ports. Too many sloppy layers.

THE BEST WAY to add an LPT printer port to your laptop is to use a PCMCIA to Parallel adapter card.
The PC Card slot provides access to the laptop's data bus, and the PC Card adapter easily sets up as a native LPT port within almost any OS.

There is no delay, or connection problems as I've seen in so many complaints about USB to Parallel or Legacy Serial adapters. Printing is Instant.

PCMCIA is a mature standard, and works seamlessly with XP and Vista, and almost any other OS.

PARALLEL is the old standard fast data protocol. IEEE 1284 ECP mode up to 1.5 Mbps.
The BJC-80 and the BJC-85 have the same print speed. The BJC-85 just added USB.

INFRARED is ver 1.0 on the BJC-80, and printing is a bit slower at 115.2 kbps. Even the BJC-85 with its higher IRDA transfer rating and a laptop's built-in IR port, the XP print spooler has problems with it, and can hang if printing more than one page, and especially with more than one document. It will not scan.

I use IR for printing single pages only with either the BJC-80 or BJC-85.
USB to IRDA adapters work fine, and are less expensive $5-6 than
PCMCIA to Parallel adapters, $20-25.

I have tested and used several PCMCIA adapters from different manufacturers, and they all work perfectly as a hot-pluggable, instant LPT and/or Legacy Serial port for my laptops.
TIPS:
After installing the PC Card driver, check Device Manager for the LPT port number.
Install the printer manually from the list of printers, and select the proper LPT port.
Most laptops have two PCMCIA slots. If you change slots, the adapter card driver may reinstall, and assign the next available LPT port, LPT2.

To scan with the BJC-80, you must have an LPT port.
The PC Card adapter also allows the use of the IS-12 scanner cartridge within XP or Vista.
Within Vista, set the Canon ISScan software to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, to allow use of the TWAIN driver.

Usb ports for laptop

Depending on if it has type I or type II PCMCIA slots, you can get a PCMCIA cardbus USB adapter.

They are relatively cheap on Ebay - about 7 bucks.

Just make sure you get one that is the correct card type, and comes with Win98 drivers.
