Question about Dell (2336V) Motherboard

Open Question

I have an Inspiron 8200 that doesnt charge the battery. It runs fine with ac power or batteries, just no charge. The charge circuit board is functional in another motherboard (I also have a working one to compare to). I have a motherboard schematic diagram, however it does not show the charge board, so I am having a dfficult time finding out whats wrong with the motherboard that is making the charge board not charging the batteries. I have two new batteries and the charge board works in the good motherboard. If I knew how the charge board communicated with the motherboard I might be able to solve this. The SMBus is showing good looking clock and data. Also the BIOS says has 70W not 90W. The 70W 90W pin reads high, same as the good one. Any one know how the charge board works or even a pinout for the main chip on it? The chip is OZT01J05S. Thanks in advance! Jumper.Ron

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 8100 Power On Reset Problem

Hi, Considering that this motherboard/model is a couple of years, it may be possible that: 1. Components have changed value seriously affecting performance. Predominant are capacitors near the CPU that have blisters, swollen or lost part of or completely its storage capacity. Next in line would be resistors and regulators specially those close to the memory slots. 2. If you have any USB device connected, try removing them while booting; 3. BIOS may be outdated/corrupt, flash the BIOS to the latest firmware if and when you were able to boot it up using the fdd (pls be informed of the inherent possible failure when flashing). On your other concerns: a. "...reset jumper..." - temporarily short the RTCRST pins near the battery. You may also try moving the PSWD from its default position (enabled) to disabled; b. "...pinouts on front panel ribbon cable connector..." sorry even the Dell site that I have access does not have info. It might be a bit difficult getting a replacement motherboard being a socket 423. Another item to be taken into consideration is that your motherboard still uses PC800 RDRAM 184-pin RIMM Memory. To sum, if you will replace the motherboard, chances are you will also have to replace the processor and memory. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

SOURCE: dell inspiron 1525 will not charge the battery

Hello,
This problem has arised because your motherboard hasn't identified your battery. So, this is motherboard problem.
next time when you chat with the dell representatives, tell them that your motherboard is not recognizing your battery. They would arrange a pickup and would have it repaired in their center.
Good luck,

~regards,
Jegan

Dell Inspiron 6000 won't charge

Since you have already replaced the battery and the laptop works with the AC charger, then probably the charge circuit in the system board (mother board) is bad. I have rarely seen an AC charger that will power the laptop but not charge the battery. 99% of the time, if it is not the battery, it is the system board.

New aftermarket Inspiron 6000 battery will not power the Laptop

I would say that the power management portion of the system board is probably faulty if it behaves the same with both the factory battery and the aftermarket.

Many systems have the charge controller and battery interface on a separate board but unfortunately on the Inspiron 6000 it's integrated.

FYI, Here's a copy of the service manual for that system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Dell inspiron 1300 does not see the battery

remove battery check if laptop works fine with ac adapter, if not then download the latest bios version first if fails then replace ac adapter. If laptop works fine with ac adapter. but cannot work with battery alone, download the latest bios then charge the battery for 6 hrs. if still batt not charging then replace batt. but as you mentioned you already replaced the batt and your still getting the same issue. replace motherboard.

Only way is to open it up and check that you're AC connector on the board is ok. If that's fine than it might be the charging circuit.

Hang

There is not a reset button that model. The only other way to force restart it would be to unplug the computer from the outlet. This is not a recommended method but, it can be used a last resort if your computer is hanging.
