I have a 2009 yz250 with a good amount of time on it and i believe 2nd gear is out of it. it grinds n almost sounds like a chain slipping when i get on the gas and is like its in neutrel. what does it take...

Yes, the case will need to be split. The problem is likely to be a bent shift fork. A bent fork can stop the dogs on the slider gear from fully engaging in a gear. If the problem turns out to be a stripped gear, you need to replace BOTH the stripped gear AND the gear the bad gear meshes with. tombones49_273.gif

When you put it in 4th gear in grinds and sounds like the chain is trying to jump off

There are a couple of stripped gears in the transmission. The case will need to be split to locate and replace the bad gears. Be sure to replace not only the stripped gear(s) but also replace any gears that the gear teeth mesh with. Even if they look okay, they were exposed to the same punishment as the stripped gear. If you din't replace the "good" gears you get to do the repair twice in just a short time. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_57.gif

Main gear in door opener striped, model #41A30339.

With stripped gear, you definitely need to look at your garage door hardware! Openers are designed to 'guide' the door up and down, not push or pull. If you have a stripped gear, most likely the opener has been working overtime.

You can check the balance of your door, by disconnecting it from the opener and raising it manually up to about knee level. If it slides down on its own, your springs are fatigued and need to be replaced by a PROFESSIONAL (DO NOT WORK ON THE SPRINGS YOURSELF!)
You can view a how-to video at

You can replace the gear and sprocket yourself if you have a few hours.. a professional will probably charge $150-$200 to replace, which- you can replace the whole opener for not too much more.

If the opener is more than 7 years old, I would recommend replacing the whole thing because all of the other parts will be worn as well, otherwise you can get away with just replacing the gear/sprocket.

Good Luck!

Windshield wiper on passengers side stopped working.

The wiper arm is either loose or the gear has stripped out the arm socket itself. Try taking the arm off and turn the wipers on, if that gear still turns, then try tightening the arm back down. If it is stripped, you must replace the arm. Otherwise, if the gear still doesnt turn, the connecting rods under the cowl have been damaged and may need replaced.

Craftsmen garage door is not opening. It started

Your drive gear must be stripped. Remove the cover and you will most likely find lots of what looks like white sawdust and a stripped gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. The part number is 41A2817 if you want to replace it and it comes with instructions. Available at any good door opener service company.

When trying to start bike starter has whirring noise, odd occasion tries to turn over?

Your starter is not engaging? Bad "bendix', low power level in yolur battery or stripped gear on your starter. Id suspect the gear.

Remove the starter (two bolts, probably 8 mm <>) and the power wire. Inspect the business end of the starter (the gear) . Stripped? replace it.

If you are brave, hook up the wire, create a ground path using a heavy jumper cable or equal, turn on the switch and press the button. What happens? If the gear is deformed, replace it. If the gear fails to shoot out - find out why. If it runs slow, you may have a low voltage issue. Check your batteryand charging system.

If you need more help, let me know. Let me know if this works for you.

Motor runs but blade does not move. Sounds like gear stripped or maybe clutch slipping.

It sounds like the spocket gear is stripped, the smaller gear drive may be stripped also. You will need to replace these parts. You can order them online at The part should be listed in your owner's manual. If you do not have an owner's manual you can give your model number and I can try to find a copy for you. They also may have a parts break down Master Parts website. I hope this helps you!

Not a easy gear to get to, entire side frame must be removed. I always just replace the whole left frame as pictured, but really you only need to replace gear pic at top, like I say not easy, take pics so you know how to reassemble it.
