I have a 1964 mercury merc 850 85hp boat motor.

I have the same motor, and the original manual.

The mixture is 50:1. Everything else will destroy your motor. Mercury has a toll free number, call there in case you still have doubts.

On the side of my 86 kx 80 2 stroke there is a hole with a pluge on it do i put tranny or motor oil in it and what fuel mixture should i use(would out board oil work

The plug on the side engine casing is for 10w40 motor oil. NEVER use synthetic lubricants or oil with 'special' additives. They can mess up your clutch. The 10w40 motor oil is shared by the gearbox and the engine because they are a single unit.

Use 4 ounces of two stroke engine oil for every gallon of gas. That will give you a 32 to 1 mixture which is the industry standard. If the outboard motor is a 2 stroke (most of them are), the engine oil is the same. Note the difference > Engine oil verses Motor oil. Motor oil in the gearbox, Engine oil in the gas.

Excess oil coming from exhaust of Husgvarna 323ld strimmer. Any ideas. thanks Alan.

Sounds like your fuel/oil mixture is incorrect. The correct mixture is 50-1 which is 2.5 fluid ounces per gallon of gas. It is critical you mix it accurately. Use only 87 octane fuel. Use only 2 stroke oil. Never use outboard oil or 4 stoke oil.

What is oil to gas ratio? What type of oil what type of gas/

A mixture of 40:1 would give good performance and protection with minimal smoke issues.
3.2 ounces of oil added to 1 gallon of gas would equal a 40:1 ratio.
Don't use outboard motor oil. Water cooled engines on those.Use a 2-Cycle oil specific to AIR COOLED engines.
Hope this hepls!

Gas mixture

It really depends on the engine. 50 to 1 is good in some and as oily as 32 to 1 in others. It is quite possible to have to carry 2 cans, 1 mixture for the main outboard and another mixture for a trolling motor. The dealers can tell you.
