Not sure what is up with it. My husband and 13 month old son managed to dump some water on it and then he tried to power it up. it shut down immediately. Wouldnt start the next day. Fast forward 4 months later when someone suggests that I try it again. (I thought it was dead, was going to have a technogeek pull my pics off hard drive and then trash it.) Lo and behold I turned it on and it powers right up, but the cord is damaged and sparking near the pc plug in. So I attempt a repair by splicing and taping. Plugged it back in and everything was great for a few minutes, then the cord overheated, everything shut down and the black box on the cord starts chirping. So I replace the cord. Thats when the laptop starts shutting down randomly. It may be just a few seconds, it may be several minutes. The last few days it has not shut down at all, even though it is warmer since I turned off the air. My first thought was overheating as well, but I am wondering if maybe all the **** it has went through could have made it more sensitive to humidity and moisture. Or if the power connection inside could have been damaged from the cord issue. Not sure. Definately not the battery. Took it out and ran strait off cord with no change. In any case, for the time being it is working ok, but if the issues return I will try the compressed air. (Tried to take laptop apart to clean out dust and maybe lube the fan, but laptop was smarter than me. I couldn't get it apart after removing screws and didn't want to risk breaking anything, LOL!)

This unit is overheating. Get some compressed air from Walmart, and spray the fins near the fan (upper left side looking from the front of the keyboard). If you play a lot of dvds, that overworks the CPU and heats it up. I bought a small $7 fan at Walmart to cool it off during these times, and I haven't had a problem since.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

So many things can occur with water damage. Deposits can be left that corrupt signals from the processor, and physical damage can occur, as well, to fans, switch contacts, etc. When the power supply gets too hot, it goes into auto shutdown to protect the processor. A fan, as mentioned, will help alleviate this.
You can, however, take compressed air ($4 at Walmart) and spray the fins near the power supply and fan, to clean most of the dust and debris out of the microprocessor fan area, without total disassembly. Actually, I'm amazed you kept the unit and got it working- most people toss them, and often they are unsalvageable.
    Anyway, hope this helps.
