Question about Dell Dimension 4700 PC Desktop

I called Dell and the technician told me to use the laptop cord. Guess what? It will not plug into a desktop tower.

Power cords for laptops of different brands usually won't fit to another brand or model or the same brand, more so with a desktop. Insist to have the right power cord.

Chris, what happens when you plug the hdmi connector into the TV and your adapter, while your computer is running and connected to the adapter?
Are there drivers required for the adapter?

As an alternative, you could install a video board in your Dell that includes an HDMI output. I have a laptop with one, and connect it to my TV often; works fine.

If the fan is not spinning this can be the issue ...but it can also be the motherboard itself ..if you have the possibility try to change the fan ..cause if it fails to start the computer will also fail cause the cpu it will shut down the system instantly if it has no cooler working ..(gets to the shut down temperature in one sec or so ) If it seams that it is trying to start ..but , like I said , it shuts down ..just try to change the fan ...but it may be a issue with the power supply or the motherboard as well...

If you are referring to the green light on the system tower and is blinking the problem could be the system is in stand by mode.

Turn off the computer by pressing on the power button on the system tower for 10 seconds.

Disconnect the black power cord at the back of the system tower and then again press the power button on the tower for 10 seconds. There would be no activity on the tower when you do this.

Reconnect the power cord and then power on the computer to see if the issue is resolved.

My dell inspiron is freezing know what should i do if you go on the desktop and go on a programme it freezes after a while

My brand new Dell laptop also has a freezing problem. It seems to mainly happen with media player or if I adjust the volume in the taskbar. I called Dell Technical Support and they did a remote access, which seemed to work, but then a few days later, the same freezing problem occured. I called Dell again, and they suggested that it might be the automatic updates that were causing problems, so I disabled these updates. But then, a few days later, the computer played up again. I had to call them for a third time, and they told me to restore the computer back to the original factory settings. After doing this, the computer froze yet again, so I got back on the phone and was told to restore the factory settings again. When this still didn't work, they told me to re-install Windows 7, which not surprisingly, still didn't solve the problem. Today I called Dell for the SIXTH time, and they told me that they're going to send a technician to my house to replace the motherboard as well as several other parts. This technician will supposedly call me tomorrow to arrange a time to come to my house. So, after six phone calls and feeling very frustrated and angry, I sure hope that replacing these parts will once and for all solve this problem. I will not be buying Dell ever again and I definitely wouldn't recommend Dell to anyone else.

No monitor display when machine is turned on.

Well first two questions and my apology if this sounds elementary but I need to ask. First, is the monitor plugged in to the back of the computer (the tower)? Second, is the power plugged in to the monitor? Just because you have power to the tower does not mean the monitor has power. So at a minimum you must have two cords running to the monitor for it to function properly.

How to soft boot a dell 4600

I used the reset button on my last one whenever ctrl/alt/del failed to soft boot
my computer.

Here is what Dell Chat tells me to do if ctrl/alt/del doesn't work:

Turn off the system from the power button. Remove the plug to the
power supply from the back off the system tower.Then hold the power
button on the tower down for 10 secs ( with the power cord removed).
Reconnect the power cord and then restart the system.This time do a
normal shutdown.

I dont know where the Dell 725 Printer Power Cord goes into the tower Which outlet on the tower

The Dell 725 printer power cord does NOT plug in to the tower. The Video Cable, on the other hand, plugs in to the tower's video output. Look for a connector like the one from the printer (often USB these days) to plug it in to the computer. There was a diagram that came with the computer that showed how to do all the connections, and the Power Cord does NOT plug in to the tower. USB connections are in various locations on your computer's tower, in the back and sometimes in the front too.

Power problem

check for unplug wire coming from the front panel if there is nothing unplug you may have to change your power supply or if you have a power supply tester check it first if not i'm kind of sure the problem is your power supply rate me
