Question about Acer Aspire 3690-2196 Notebook

1 Answer

I was using my laptop last night when it just shut down on me, then when i went to turn it back on it goes to the acer "start up" like page before skipping to a black screen and displaying the following message: Broadcom UNDI PXE 2.1 v11 . 4.1 Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom Corporation Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation All rights reserved. Broadcom Base Code PXE- 2.1 v1.1.0 Copyright (C) 2000-2008 Broadcom Corporation Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. Operating System not found this has happened once before and when we sent it away the tech people from acer said it was a software problem or something along those lines. what do i do to get it to start up as i have lost an entire years worth of school work as well as pictures, music, and other files?

If you have a BOOT CD then try to boot and go to windows.
Or you can use windows setup CD but go for repair only.
For the future it is a good idea to INSTALL WINDOWS in a USB mini drive and boot the computer from USB. You have to go to BIOS and set USB default drive.
It is a good idea to clone your HD in a CD.

If windows are corrupt and fail to boot, you have three options to recover the data:
Create boot disk to an identical computer, get into the windows, and retrieve the data.
Create and use a recovery disk to get in the windows, and retrieve the data.
Use windows SET UP CD, only in "REPAIR MODE", this will not format the HD, will repair files, and the data will remain intact.
Send PC or HD in a lab to retrieve the data, but you have to pay.
Details for option 1 and 2 you can get to:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tip...

If you have access to another computer then:
Remove the Hard Drive from your computer and retrieve the data with another computer.
This is similar with what LABS DO. If you are patient and pay attention to details, then you may get your data back. You can find step by step procedure at this link. http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop10.htm

change your boot priority. press power button then keep on tapping F1 key until your reached to setup utility. go to boot menu and set your boot priority 1 to your HDD. if compute wasnt able to detect your HDD . then there is a problem wth your HDD, you need to call you manufacturer for HDD replacement if unit is still under warranty

Hi. I think the problem on this one is its either your Harddrive has already failed or your Optical Drive has a cd inside, so double check your Optical drive if there is a disc inside it. If not this issue is also with the operating system, you can try to restore your system by pressing the One Key recovery(OKR) button found beside the power button which has a logo of an arching arrow, but remember to plugin first the ac adapter on your laptop before pressing the One Key Recovery Button and also do not press the power button to turn on your computer because when you press the OKR button it will automatically turn on your computer and proceed with the recovery process. When it gives you some option you should choose One Key Recovery and then choose System Recovery, then factory default and from there it will guide you to the whole process of recovering your machine. If this doesnt fix the issue you could also try using the Recovery disc to restore your sytem t its original settings just like the OKR. Lastly you can contact the tech support dept. of Lenovo, they are open 24/7 and this the number to contact:
US/Canada: Available 24/7 1-877-4LENOVO (1-877-453-6686)
Australia: Available 24/7 1300-557-073
New Zealand: 9am-9pm Mon-Fri 0800-446-833. Hope this helps

This is showing because the computer is not seeing the hard drive that contains the operating system. In some cases this is because the hard drive has come dislodged from the interface on the motherboard. Dells are good for this because the hard drive slides into the side of some models. Try reseating the hard drive and reboot. Your worse case scenario is that your hard drive has failed. The reason you are seeing the PXE-MOF etc. is that the laptop ias now looking for a network hard drive to boot from. It can't find the intenal hard drive so it is searching for other means to boot.

SOURCE: Hi, When I turn on my

usually, this message means that when your computer is booting it is trying get the operating system files from a network location (shared folder)

what you need to do is to make sure your BIOS is not set to boot from network.

1. when the computer starts, there is a message like "to enter BIOS press Esc" or any other key like F2 or F10
2. in the BIOs settings, make sure the order of the boot is: DVD/CD then hard disk. make sure there is no Network booting in the list

SOURCE: went to shut down comp. and screen said, and still

A "media test failure, check cable" means your hard disk failed. The bios can not locate the boot sector of the hard disk to begin loading the operating system.
"Operating system not found" means windows can't load because the Bios can not find the operating system (because the hard disk failed).

This is pretty much an unrecoverable error in terms of fast fixes. You can take the hard disk to a data recovery service if you need to retrieve important data or files.

My laptop wont turn on, last night it got hot and shut off cud i have fried it?acer model#nal10

Hi,

It is unlikely that you have fried anything. When they begin to overheat most computers will turn themselves off to protect themselves to prevent this happenning.

If you leave the laptop to cool down completely while un plugged and then plug it back in it should be fine!

Acer aspire 3610 graphic or battery problem?

It sounds like your backlight is damaged. On some units this can be replaced on its own. On others, it requires the entire LCD to be replaced. I'll see if I can find out which this is, in your case, and find you a part number.

Do you have a backup disc i.e. an operating system disc! as it sounds like you may have to reload the complete operating system. If restore cant be accessed then you will undoubtedly will have to do a clean install!

Cannot start up my laptop since in done an update

Try booting into "Last known good configuration" it is on the same screen as Safe Mode, if that does not work, you can try to run CHKDSK /r from the windows install CD, just choose "Repair" in the option, if this does not work I suggest removing that hard drive and slaving it into another computer to get your data off and then reload Windows onto it. It is missing a .dll

When you start your laptop, press F8. You will get a menu (Normal boot, Reboot...). Choose Last good known configuration (something like that).
