Have a pc098a-aba,there are four slots for ram,i have 2 256 and 2 512,in what order do they gi into the slots

There are only two combinations depending on the exact board and chipset used

either 1 and 3 should be a matched pair and then 2 and 4

EG
1=512
2=256
3=512
4=256

OR

1 AND 2 = 512
3 AND 4 = 256

If they are DDR then watch the bios setting for options and turn off ECC if it is there.
Also whilst booting up if they are matched then there will be an extra line of text on screen during initial boot that tells you it is running as dual channel

Problems with 3 brand new PC 133 512 MB RAM in Netvista 6794

That last RAM probably is good. Many motherboards have problems using many different memory. All of the memory you have should be at least identical to ensure that they work. When RAM run at different speed or require a little more voltage, they will not let your motherboard boot. You can try mixing up the order you put the RAM in. Try putting the last RAM in the first slot by itself, the motherboard should boot. Then try the rest.

Also, whenever you add or change hardwares, you should clear the CMOS/BIOS settings.

I would like to nwom how much of memory this laptop support

The Thinkpad is installed with 128 MB SDRAM is standard, and is expandable to 512 MB
There are two memory slots, to expand it to 512 Mb you need two 256 Mb RAM modules and throw away the 128 Mb RAM module, but if you don't throw away this module and you insert a 256 Mb RAM module in the 2nd memory slot then your total memory would be 384 Mb.

IBM Netvista PC is not ready for Windows XP, you should update its BIOS on its version so that you can install windows XP, maybe ACPI is not ready yet for this motherboard compliance to Windows XP, so download it at www.ibm.com

I went and bought new ram for my computer. it's an IBM desktop. type 6792. a pc133 512MB sdram. my computer will not pick it up. how do i get the computer to pick up the ram? it is the right kind of ram?

I checked at http://www.buffalotech.com/products/memory/select/select-dimm/ and according the the memory configurator there your IBM Netvista 6792 takes this type of memory which can be ordered from them PC-133mhz SDRAM DIMM 168 pin, it indicated that your pc has 3 slots for memory and the maximum size you can put in each slot is 512 MB which would give you the maximum memory of 1536 MB. I have had problems in the past when replacing memory in IBM PC's some modules won't work because IBM uses different memory than other Manufacturers. But give Buffalo a try, their memory is guaranteed.

Memory upgrade for Compaq Presario 2195 us

This is helpful for process on changin ram.CLICK HERE

As far as i can tell your computer will hold up to 1024 megs of ram that is 2 512 sticks. Just pic up the other 512 and call it a day that way you know your maxxed out on ram anyway. Not sure if it will take the different size sticks as I haven't found anything on their site. TRY HERE
