Question about Malibu ML600TW - Low Voltage Power Pack - 600 Watt - With Timer and Ground

1 Answer

The power pack worked well for months, now only one of the two circuits is working so only half the lights turn on at night. Is there a way to troubleshoot this problem?

Open following for Power Pack troubleshoot checklist and warranty information and other tips to keep power pack working longer:

If terminals are not working, test for 12 volts across A and B terminals.
Terminal C is used ONLY when you use photo-eye that is made specifically for the ML series power pack.

Just bought a new Malibu 120 runs a few minutes and shuts off repeat ly after reset

Malibu 120 has photoeye.
At night, the darkness causes photoeye to turn lights ON
Lights located near to the photoeye can cause the photoeye to 'think' it is daytime... so photoeye turns lights OFF...
Then it's dark again because lights are off... so photoeye turns lights ON.
The cycle repeats ON-OFF all night long.

Can I set the Malibu 8100-0600-01 to operate at 2 different times at night-(ie- on at 7:00pm-off at 10:00pm then on again at 5:00am and off at 7:00 am)

Yes: Rotate power pack selector to ON. Buy analog wall timer with 3-prong plug from local store. Plug power pack into analog wall timer that will turn power pack on-off twice a night.
Copy following link to identify timer and also see tips for prolonging power pack life:
Analog timers:

The 1-year warranty digital transformers sold by Malibu and other vendors are made for single on-off events per each night.
If you manually set power pack to ON so lights are on all the time, then plug power pack into ordinary analog wall timer, then the analog timer turns power pack on-off when you want.

Other option is to buy 5-year warranty Intermatic-Malibu power pack with built-in analog timer dial and set trippers to turn on-off when you want. Order extra trippers for more on-off operations per each 24-hour day.

ML600 won't turn off

The clock module for power pack is not sold separately.
Set timer to auto using override knob so lights are on, then plug power pack into cheap timer.
Check outlet with circuit analyzer.
Try connecting power pack to another outlet.

Installed 8 low voltage lights with a malibu digital 120w timer 2 months ago. The timer does not always work. I'll unplug then power up the system and then the lights turn on. Never had this problem...

Timer is not identified:
Open following link to see low-voltage digital timers and then add a comment if needed:
Page also has links to warranty information, and list of advisories so power pack lasts longer.

There are 2 likely suspects: Bad timer, or electrical problem.
There is no repair for bad timer, but timer has warranty through the manufacturer/ Malibu.
Electrical: Since power pack worked correctly before, then outlet probably has correct polarity, but I always suggest checking outlet with circuit analyzer.
Also plug lamp into same outlet and see if there is flickering that would indicate loose wire. Wiggle circuit breaker and see if lamp flickers. Move the outlet and see if lamp flickers.
Outdoor outlets get loose wires because of exposure to temperature and dust and moisture. Replace outlet and don't use the quick connects, instead use screw terminals.
If possible, move timer to different outlet on different breaker and see if problem persists.

Our lights were all connected to one transformer, but the second half of the lights were dimmer than the first half. I installed a second transformer to help eliminate the dimming for the second half of...

1) Problem could be transformer voltage and/or length-and-diameter of wire.

2) Open following link for power pack resources including links to manuals, tips, trippers, instructions, and troubleshoot:

3) Unclear what is meant by 1st half and 2nd half of lights.
Do not connect transformers in parallel or series with each other.
Test across terminals A and B and see if it shows 12 Volts. If voltage is less, then power pack is not functioning correctly.
Power pack wattage must match total wattage of bulbs.
First bulb must be 10 feet away from transformer.

4) Use following chart for wire size:

Malibu lights system 8 yrs old and always a-ok. Other night, lights noticed to be super-dim. replaced 200 watt transformer with a new identical model. Lights powered up ok, but only about half...

Since it is uncommon for a power supply to vary, it is more likely there is a variable drain on the system, such as a nick in the insulation, variably grounding depending on soil moisture.

I would suggest isolating most of the circuit, and only plugging in one light at first, and then adding more until you find a change.

The other way to do it would be with an inductive ammeter or audible pick up, and trace the circuit, detecting a drop in current or sound right after the drain.

My ML200RT Malibu Transformer is working bu the timer is not. I hear it ticking but the timer doesn't rotate. I can manually rotate the timer to turn the lights on and off. If I buy a cheap timer for...

Hi all my first post here. I've had the same problem my Malibu timer quit working manual settings worked fine and lights are all good. So, as a curious person does I took the transformer apart and behold what I found. A simple timer assy with a part number. WG2000 I googled it and found a replacement cost a whole $17.33 a lot better than $80-$100 for a new power pack. The only problem I found was from my old timer and the new one was the old one had 3 holes drilled for line up pins and my new one only had one next to the gear. This hole is for a second line up pin to hold in place. I simply marked the pin with nail polish and assembled to mark the hole drill location. Lined up perfect. I have attached photos of the job. Don't be nervous to disassemble and reassemble. Not hard to do. Use your camera on your phone to take photos while doing it. So you don't forget steps. My disclaimer, I'm not a electrician, not liable for you breaking your power pack or shocking yourself. Use your common sense if you got any. I'm just tired of paying alot of $ for stuff. Best of luck and hope this helps someone else.

Yaesu VX-3R ham radio will not turn ON!!!!

Even though this is several months old, I thought I would post this reply. I had the same problem when I ran the battery completly down. The charge light didn't come on and the unit would not turn on with the power or battery. Sent the unit back to Yaesu for warranty work and they replaced the switch board. Unfortunately after I got it back and ran the battery down again..... Well, it's back at Yaesu AGAIN! Looks to me like there could be a problem with the power circuit being overloaded when it tries to charge the flat battery!!
Nice little rig, but it may be for sale once I get it back!!
