SOURCE: replacing ballast

To confirm if the ballast is bad check the ballast board to see if the spark gap (on the ballast board) lights when you first turn the set on. If it does than the ballast is ok.

SOURCE: 52HM84 Toshiba DLP with apparent failed lamp (replaced ballast)

I found R3 on the original board to be open, along with reading an open on CR1, D5 and D6. All the other transistors and the transformer check out. The only thing I have to do now is find out the specs of the diodes. The replacement board also had CR1, D5 and D6 open (R3 was OK). There had been some threads on various locations where remanufactured boards had bad components (the transistors were changed but not some of the other components).

The lights indicated that I needed to replace my lamp. After doing so, the TV still doesn't have picture. What do I have to do to get it to work?

It is possible that the Ballast is not turning on the lamp. In past years it had been difficult to get the Ballast separate from the Optical Block but they seemed have them available. In order to replace it you will need to remove the Optical Block which is in the center. The ballast assembly is mounted on the right side of the OpticaL Block. Once the Optical Block assembly is removed, it is not difficult to replace. To order a Ballast, call 1800-631-3811. You will need the model number.
I hope this helps,

Toshiba 52HMX84 Sound no picture.

It's not a 1k Resistor but a's the resistor R3 on the Circuit Board Part Number RPB-4434ZA (P/N: 23122468). If you don' replace the resistor you will keep burning your lamp. If you decide to replace the resistor by should take the time to look at all the on the back of the board. This Board is made by the company Rubicon Corporation for Toshiba and it's a issue on the Toshiba DLP TV (62-52HMX84). If you don't wanna do the job yourself..bring your TV to a repair and give him the part number of the board and ask him to replace the board for you. If the price is higher than $350.00 go somewhere else...He try to fu....^&*%*%&%.
