Purchased a Samsung SH855 DVD

Purchased a Samsung SH855 DVD Recorder with 250gb Hard drive, this is now my 4th unit that that I have changed over from Harvey Norman for various issues, this unit now has the same problem as the first, when playing back recorded progammes on hard drive, the picture & sound staggers and sometimes stops like a scratched DVD.
Anybody know what tyhe problem may be, as Samsung tell me that there is no generic issue. Cheers Peter

-   In some ways it is a relief to know that I am not setting it wrong. I check and double check that timer is right and then get a few minutes of recording. Which doesn't play back well at all. Picture jams while sound keeps going or it just freezes. I have had it a week and recording has failed 4 out of 4 times. Taking it back tomorrow. Was just going to exchange but am having a rethink now.-   hanmick

-   I'm on my second Samsung SH855 and am going to return it tomorrow.

I took the first one back after 9 days because it wouldn't reliably Timer record - failed 4 out of 6 tries (missed the Wallabies Springboks Tri-nations game because of it).

The replacement, which I've had 4 days, has the same issue as Ace66's.

I timer recorded two games of Rubgy League on HDD. During recording the timer would just stop for minutes at a time, then tick over really quickly (I captured that behaviour on my Camera and am *really* tempted to put it on You Tube).

Playback is completely unwatchable ... it freezes, pixelates, and is *exactly* like a scratched DVD - except that this is HDD !!

I'm so crapped off with this brand I'm asking for my money back.-   Club Muncher

Did the return yesterday. They plugged it in and did a playback in the shop to check what I meant. They claimed to be surprised. Anyway got my new unit home and was testing it out. It seemed to have the same problem. Meanwhile the sales guy rang to say they had tried it in the shop and that it might be my reception.

I got a reception booster and so far it has recorded what i have programmed. Playback quality is still a bit patchy at times.
Now I have to think about my next move.
