How do i reset the username and password of and old router that i am going to use again but forgot the old infirmation?

Which model is it? Difficult to guess which you have. There are free online manual that show how to reset, if you provide the model number using the Comment menu.

Some routers show a default username and password pasted on the bottom of the router.

After a reset, for many Huawei routers, the password is a default of either admin or 3bb and the username is admin.

A forgotten or lost router password cannot be recovered. It can only be reset by hard resetting the router. Press the reset button for few seconds then you can login using default username and password.....

What username do you know? Is it for the login for the GUI when you type the 192.168.1.1? There is no way you can retrieve the password you had set if you changed it before. The only way to access your router GUI again is to hard reset the router so that it will go back to default as admin for username and password is admin as well. The problem is all the settings that you saved before like port forwarding, NAT configuration and wireless setting will go back to default and you will need to reconfigure it back again.

If you have forgotten the router password you can reset it.
To do this, turn the router upside down and look for a small pinhole that says reset. Get a stapler and press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds.
The router will reset to factory defaults and you will be able to login again using the default username and password. For linksys routers is "admin" for both fields.

by default leave the username blanck and password is admin, for the ipaddress go to command prompt type in ipconfig then hit enter, the gateway is the ipaddress

Default user is "admin" and password is "admin" or blank or "password"
if not works then reset your router.
Press RESET button it is in back side of router.
Press it for 10 seconds so all settings are defaults.

If you've forgotten the username and password, there is really no viable solution other than resetting the router. All the software can be found on linksys' website, along with manuals for reconfiguring your router. Breakout your trusty paperclip and press the reset button on the back of the router. Reconfiguring should only take a few minutes. The default username will be "admin" and the default password is "password" (both without the quotes.)
