The should be an orange light at the top of your keyboard. Touch it with your finger and see if it turns blue. That controls your bluetooth, if you have, and wireless.

Hi Steve,
The wireless switch would absolutely have an effect on whether your WIFI was ON on your laptop. The following link shows a diagram of your laptop:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12448_na/12448_na.HTML
It appears that it is a button on either the left edge of the laptop, or possibly above the keyboard. Press the button and ensure your WIFI LED (front-left edge) should be lit. Then, try connecting to your wireless network again. I hope this helps!

I keep getting an error message indicating that my wireless device is disabled. It's a HP mini. for work serial CNF0260923. HP MIni 210 - 1076NR

If you get that message, believe it.
You will have to enable it either through the software switch or a little switch that some computer manufacturers place on the computer case.
The first thing you can do is open your network connections and see if you can see the wireless connections. If it says disabled, you might be able to right-click on it and enable it.
You can also look in the control panel to see if the HP wireless assistant can be accessed through there (or possibly through the programs list).

HOW DO I TURN ON THE WIRELESS ON MY TOBISHA LAPTOP

If you're using a Toshiba laptop and you can't figure out how to enable WiFi you probably aren't alone. Thankfully there are several approaches you can take from a hardware and Windows Operating System stance to turn on your wireless connection while making sure you can properly connect to a wireless network.
Difficulty: Easy Instructions

Look at the keyboard options on your laptop. You should see a button that looks like a small antenna. The button placement may vary from device to device. For instance, you may have a dedicated button or it may be placed much like the option circled in the picture to the left of this step.

Click on the "Windows Start Button" and Navigate to "Control Panel" then click on "Network Connections" or "Network and Sharing" depending on your version of Windows.

    • 3

Right-click on your wireless connection icon once the "Network Connections" window opens. Choose "Enable" and left-click on that option with your mouse. Wait for the wireless connection to enable.

Alternatively you can try clicking on the " Windows Start Button" and then clicking on "Connect to," where you will click on "Show all connections." When the connection window opens up, you should right-click on "Wireless Network Connection" and then choose "Enable." Now right-click on "Wireless network connections" and then choose "View Available Wireless Networks" to see if your WiFi adapter is enabled.

Hope this was helpfull

Have you download any software recently? Often times, this can alter things with your network, (irritating, yes I know), something like a new security program...... Try disabling the security and then try enabling it...... Hope this helps :)

PS: Remember after you are connected to enable your security program....

Wireless switch does not turn on wireless light

Make sure that the hardware manager shows that it is enabled.

Right click on "Computer", select "Properties", "select Device Manager", look under "network adapters" and see if it is enabled.

Can not enable wireless

Usually if there is a problem with the hardware it shows up wth a differant error. Usually disabled means it is switched off or you have the cable plugged in.

On a laptop we have the often annoying option of switching the wireless off to save the battery. On your model the off/on switch or button is located just above the keyboard. There should be three buttons near the bottom of the screen. The left most button is the one we want. Just push it and your wifi should start if this is how it was turned off.

If it doesn't then we may need to check the network connections window. moz-screenshot.png moz-screenshot-1.pngHere we can make sure it is enabled. Unplug the cable connection if its plugged in. Some drivers will auto switch to the faster speed ie the cable while others go to the wireless. Unplugging it forces it to try the wireless.

Click on start then look for something called network connection along the right side. If it is there then click on it and it will bring up a window called network connections. You may have to go to settings then control panel and network connections which is the other way of getting here.

This should show 3 things. A cable connection ie something like Broadcom 10/100, your wireless connection called something like Athero's and usually something called 1394 which is Firewire. Right click on the wireless one and if it says ENABLE click that and your wireless should startup.

Wireless does not show up in Network Connections

Did you try - after switching on the "antenna switch" or WiFi hardware - to "Enable" the WiFi adapter, under (XP) Start - Settings - Network Connections - LAN or High-Speed Internet - Wireless Network Connection? (select, right click and select Enable)?

p.s. Once your WiFi hardware is recognized (by Win XP) there is (should be) always a "Wireless Network Connection" in your Network Connections, enabled or disabled, active or not.
