Question about Epson Stylus 1400 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

1400 carriage The carriage on my 1400 is locked in the right hand position and I cannot get it to move so I can check the ink cartridges. Both red lights are flashing and the power light is off. With an older printer I could push a release for it but don't know where it would be on this.

If the printer power light is off and the paper and ink light are flashing there are a few things you can try.
1. remove all paper from the printer.
2. lift cover and check for paper jam
3. check to see that the ink cartridge cover is completley closed. (the covers do actually pop themselves open and jam)

if none of these fix your problem then your in the hands of epson tech support. they can be reached @ 562-276-7282

Epson R2400 paper and ink lights blinking red. Ink waste pad replaced and counter reset to 0. Lights still blinking red. Close inspection for any loose objects in printer but none found. Please advise....

Try to turn on your printer without the ink cartridges. When the printer starts and ask for the cartridges, put them back in.

(To remove the cartridges turn on the printer, watch the print head carriage move, when it is at the center quickly unplug the power cable, move the carriage by hand to a position where you can remove the cartridges, after removing the cartridges push the carriage to the right where it should be parked.)

Red and green lights are flashing alternatively and colour ink cartridge has run out. How do i change the cartridge?

Flashing alternately mean waste pad full. Reset using SSC utility or Adjusment program/resetter. But, you must replace cartridge before. Turn off printer, unlock carriage lock (left side of carriage at parking position). Move carriage by hand to replacement position. Replace ink tank. Reset using the resetter.

How do i get the cartridge container to stop at

Ink replacement procedure only available if ink out level. But, if you wish to move carriage to replacement position, turn off printer, and release carriage lock. Or turn on printer and unplug power while carriage moving. so cariiage will stop not in parking position. move by hand freely to repalcement position.

Red warning lights remain on.....

Ink and paper light on : head carriage error/general error. Head can't move extremely to right : head carriage blocked or CR motor error. Turn of printer, unlock head carriage lock. Move head left and back to right (to parking position). Is it move freely?

Clear carrier jamed

There could be 4 possibilities.

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.
