Re: dell inspiron 6000 series key cap
You have to have all the parts to the key, laptops have many parts to a key, make sure none have slid under the other keys, if you can't get it on, I suggest you could go to ebay and try to get a key that is fully assembled and only needs to be connected, if you can't do that either I suggest you bring the laptop and the key to your local computer shop or have a tech come to your house.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 pv and I am not sure what you mean by the "lock" key. There are 2 lock keys on the computer: Number lock - which doubles as the Scroll lock when combined with the "Fn" key. Either of these can be toggled on or off. To enable or disable, simply press the key. If the lock for Caps or Num is on, the led just left of the power button will be lit.
On the Inspiron 6000, behavior for the NUM lock can be set in the system set-up. I am assuming the issue you are having has to do with how the lock is configured in the setup. Try adjusting the behavior to see if this helps fix your problem.
Press and hold the "Ctrl" and "F11" keys simultaneously when the Dell splash screen appears. The "Dell PC Restore by Symantec" window will appear. Click "Restore." Just make sure you have saved all your data before doing that.
the spacebar key is misaligned. you may try removing the cap but putting it back is a pain the @ss, and usually does not work.
if this is within warranty, call dell and have it replaced for a reason that the key popped out
You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
