Operation The battery of my Sony DCR HC40E camcorder was stolen almost three years ago. I replaced it recently. Earlier the battery was FP50, but now I have been able to get only an FP 51 as a replacement. The battery sits in the slot perfectly. I have kept the battery for charging for more than 8 hours. Now when I switch on the handycam, the LCD screen stays blank. I cannot see anything through the view finder. The W/T function does not work. In short the handycam reains dead. How could this be rectified?

If you power the camcorder from the call socket, if it works that mean the battery has bad.

The touch screen on my Sony DCR-HC40E is not working

Hi!
The flat LCD cable which goes through the hinges has broken - a common problem with many Sony camcorders. You will have to give it to Sony for repair.

Draining battery

This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin. Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you. Hope this helps you.
