Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies
Firstly, find out if your printer supports duplex printing, refer to your printer manual or look for the Two-sided (Duplex printing) or Print on both sides drop-down menu in the Printer Properties dialog box on your PC (sometimes found in the Printer Shortcuts tab). If you can’t locate any of these options in your printer manual or Printer Properties dialog box, you may not have driver support for duplexing or automatic duplexing
To make your printer print duplex, follow the steps below, Step 1: Go to your PC’s Print dialog box and click on Properties.
Step 2: Click on the Printing Shortcuts tab, and select Two-sided (Duplex) Printing from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Select Automatic from the Print on both sides drop-down menu. Click ok, and you are set.

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.
In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

Ghosting is usually a sign that the fuser in the printer needs to be replaced. Remove the fuser and look at it. If the rollers are not smooth and free of built up toner or other gunk then replace it. Supplies for this printer have gotten much more affordable and if the printer works fine otherwise it is a good investment to replace the fuser.

If Hp does not have a drivr to support it then you are out of luck unless you find someone that hacked drivers to work with it. If they have Windows Vista drivers, you can try those but they are not goign to guarantee to work.
not all equipment from Xp works with vista or 7. Xp is not the same OS or even same breed as Vista/7
