Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a color problem (pinkish hue) when my DirecTV HD receiver is connected to my DLP Optoma HD80 Projector via HDMI cable. Same cable works fine for PS3, XBox 360, etc. If I switch to component cables, the video is fine with DirecTV receiver and projector. Wondering if latest update (June timeframe) from DirecTV messed up color spacing.

I have tried different HDMI cables with same results. I have even grabbed a different DirecTV receiver from another room and replaced the "suspect" one and had same results. Again, projector works fine with EVERY other device connected via HDMI.

If you haven't I would consider upgrading the firmware for your projector you can find the instructions and software at this link:

This definitely sounds like an HDMI issue, and it seems you have narrowed it down to an issue with the receiver. I would just use component as a work around as you should be getting the same video quality as HDMI. If you need to you may want to contact directv directly as this may be a known issue on their end.
Thanks,
Lee

I have an Optoma DS316L which has no red colour, will changing the lamp fix the problem?

No. The lamp is strictly for luminance. You might check the video cable first. If its HDMI going into the projector, swap out the cable. Make sure you have it thoroughly plugged in. Also check the connection on the device you're connecting to the projector, for example a DVR, a computer, a streaming device.

If none of those work, then you may might have a defective circuit inside the projector to interpret color. Hope its on warranty.

Sound like the original color wheel for Optoma HD80 is bad.

If the unit has been moved when hot.

If not, try un-plugging the unit for a few minutes and re-connect.

Hope this helps

I have an optoma tx1080p projector and Yamaha receiver. Recently we started getting the problem where the projector keeps saying that the source is not found. When I connect the hdmi cable directly to the...

This is most likely a problem with what's called "HDMI handshake." It's a silly protection scheme called HDCP that is meant to keep people from copying content. The best thing to do is unplug everything, then turn on things in this order: receiver>projector>sources (directv, Bluray). If that does not work, check for firmware updates for the receiver or projector.

I have an optoma HD20 and it connects using a 1.5m HDMI but as soon as i try a 10m HDMI connection (even with a booster it does not connect) any suggestions welcomed?

Hi kgomer782 I have similar issue. My optoma hd20 signal connection with a 3/6ft hdmi cable is perfect. However, no signal is detected when connected to a 35ft hdmi 1.4 cable. The 35ft cable is indeed working becuase I tested it succesfully when connected to a 1080p HDTV. Did you received any solution to your problem? I wonder if it has anything to do with the HD20 design of the "debossed" hdmi ports that prevents the cable plug from getting completely "seated" in the port? My 35ft cable has a flat square male ending however, the 3/6ft cables have slim male ending that seems to accomodate perfectly in the Optoma's hdmi port design...kaufmanekpr

Digital projector is shutting down as soon as dvd

Hi make sure that in the projector menu it doesn't have an option to cancel "control" as many tv's with hdmi have the capability to receive command signals through the hdmi cable.

Also make sure that your receiver is set for hdmi signal you must designate which input you are using on the receiver and then tell it what type of signal you want it to use.

you may have just pushed a button that changed these settings somewhere along the way.

hope that helps

Three years no problems it's a great machine with incredible picture using 106" screen
