Question about LG L196WTQ Monitor

1 Answer

My monitor, Flatron L196WTQ-BF, just quit working one day. I have tried to get it to work, checking power, moving to different computers, etc, but it won't light up at all. The on/off switch remains dark no matter what I do. I want to open the case and see if there is something obviously wrong inside (thought I could fix it) but I don't want to damage the case. Is there a repair manual for the unit. What can I do? Thanks for any help you can give me.

My L194WT -SF WONT WORK NO POWER USED SAME POWER LEAD ON DIFFERENT MONITOR NO PROBLEM

Hello Steve,

The most common problem with the L194WT monitors is a failure of the power supply board. There are parts called capacitors that fail and can cause the issue you have. Sometimes the power light will just flash, sometimes it takes several minutes to display a picture or even a wavy picture, all of these issues indicate a failing power supply board. These boards can be repaired if you can do a little soldering. The L194WT uses the same power board as the L196WTQ and we have a step by step repair guide with dis-assembly instructions available at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/lg-l196wtq-bf-lcd-monitor-repair/ Look over the guide and check your board to see if your capacitors have bulged and need to be replaced.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Here is a link to a repair guide for the LG L196WTQ. It sounds like you have a power supply failure and the guide shows how to open the unit, check the power board and then what to replace if you do find bad capacitors.

Problems like wavy or flickering picture, flashing power light, slow to display the picture or no power at all are all symptoms of a failed or failing power supply board.

HOW TO CHECK A LG FLATRON L194WT-SF MONITOR FUSE, THE REAL PROBLEM IS HOW TO REMOVE THE BACK COVER

Here are the service manuals: http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=LG&megnev2=L194W&kategoria=monitor&kat2=all

After removing all the screws and the base, I use thin flat blade screw driver to crack open the case starting at the bottom egde and work your way around, just watch out for any cables attached to the front bezel. The monitor is not made to be easily open up.

Please read my guide so you will know what to look for inside the monitor.

Monitor will not awake from sleep mode. Pilot light is amber when asleep. If the monitor is turned off pilot light goes from amber to off or black or nothing. Turning the monitor back on the pilot light...

That means your monitor is not receiving a signal from your video card.

A couple things to check:
*Make sure your cable is ok - unplug and replug the cable to see if it is a loose connection. Or try a different cable.

*Make sure your computer is not in sleep mode - Move your mouse or otherwise ensure your computer is awake and sending a video signal

*If you have another computer, try the monitor on the other system and see if it works.

LG Monitor L196WTQ-BF ..weird image stuck on desktop??

The "image" you are talking about: Is it there when the monitor is off? If so, you are correct--it's broken and must be replaced.
Is it on the desktop when you start the computer and does it stay there no matter what program you are running. If the answer is "yes" then I'm afraid the answer is the same.

I have a LG L196WTQ-BF flatron screen. Computer powers up but screen does not turn on. I lhave used this for a couple of years with not problems. The computer I am using is a HP Pavilion a430n.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
